Exciting news! Yakima Transit will be offering a free
shuttle service from the well-lit and paved Kmart parking lot across the street to the front doors of the Jewett Interpretive Center for the start of your candle-lit walk. Partnering with the City of Yakima means shorter lines of traffic, no more scary dark parking lots, and getting stuck in the mud. YAHOO! All traffic will be directed to park in the Kmart parking lot unless you have a handicap parking pass and/or a special permit obtained through the Arboretum.
All other aspects of Luminaria will remain the same.
Luminaria features a pathway through the Arboretum's wintery landscape lit by the light over a 1000 candles. While walking the trail people will enjoy listenening to the music of the Arboretum’s Carillon Bell Tower, see groves of trees strung with 1000's of twinkling lights before heading to the Jewett Interpretive Center to warm up with a cup of Starbuck's coffee, hot Tree Top apple cider, hot chocolate, and/or tasty treats from the kitchens of Zirkle Fruit, live music performed each hour by various local artists, fun children's crafts, and shopping in the Tree House Gift Shop.
Hundreds of families return year after year making the annual Luminaria walk a magical holiday tradition. After 25 years, Luminaria continues to draw over a thousand visitors each night, and new features are added to keep it fresh and interesting. Children and their parents can’t help but be enchanted by this special event. The trail is relatively flat and designed to be used without a flashlight.
These awesome folks help us to light up the night!
