NEARLY $600,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS CELEBRATED AT LUNCHEON
This was a record year for the Muma College of Business, with more scholarship money awarded than ever before. LECTURE SERIES NETS SPEAKERS ON CUTTING EDGE OF SPORTS
The Muma College of Business Sport & Entertainment Management program has signed three heavy hitters to speak at the Oct. 9 lecture series event at the USF Sun Dome. Brendan Donohue, director of the NBA 2K League; Jeff Wilpon, COO of the New York Mets and Tim Leiweke, founder and CEO of Oak View Group, will join moderator Abe Madkour to talk about the future of the industry. BIZ LAW PROFESSOR BOB WELKER GIVES AND GIVES AND GIVES
Bob Welker is no stranger to the halls of the Muma College of Business. He has taught here for more than a half-century. And over the past 41 years, he consistently has made donations to the school and to students. He was recognized for his giving last month at the luncheon for scholarship donors and recipients. He says he didn't see it coming.

CONVERSATION WITH A CEO: ARNIE BELLINI IS THE NEXT HONOREE
ConnectWise cofounder and CEO Arnie Bellini is next up in the popular Conversation with a CEO series, which resumes this month after taking the summer off. Bellini, a USF alumnus with an MBA, also is an accomplished endurance swimmer. The event takes place from 4:30-6 p.m. on Sept. 28. in downtown Tampa. Learn more. To register, click here.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: PALLAVI GOPEE CHARGES TOWARDS GOALS
No challenge is too large for Pallavi Gopee, a business administration major who takes on adversity one obstacle at a time. She moved to a new country, learned a new language and overcame some restrictive traditions to study business in a university a half-a-world away from her island nation off the coast of east Africa. She gains strength in climbing over all those hurdles, making them chapters in her life's book of success.

MUMA COLLEGE OF BUSINESS WEEK OF WELCOME A SMASH HIT
Hundreds of students crowded into the atrium and breezeway last month to take advantage of free hot dogs and chips, gadgets and T-shirts (for declared biz students). The event, sponsored by GTE Financial, was the college's way of welcoming students for another year. Spotted handing out swag: Dean Moez Limayem.

SCHOLARSHIP BEGUN BY GRADS IN 2016 REACHES ENDOWMENT
A scholarship fund started just last year by four Muma College of Business accounting graduates - all in their 20s - has grown to the point of endowment. Their donations, along with matching funds and gifts from others, grew the Forward Scholarship for Women of Excellence to $25,000, meaning scholarships awarded from the fund will no longer deplete the principal.

POST-IRMA FOOD DRIVE MOUNTED FOR THE FEED-A-BULL PANTRY
Figuring some faculty and staff overstocked for Hurricane Irma and now have a full pantry of canned and packaged food, employees at the Muma College of Business put out collection boxes for non-perishable goods. The donations will be given to the Feed-A-Bull Pantry, a program that makes sure USF students don't go hungry.

MARVIN KARLINS' NEW BOOK TRANSLATED INTO 15 LANGUAGES
When he's not standing in front of a management class, ISDS Professor Marvin Karlins sits in front of a keyboard. His most recent book, titled, "The Like Switch" has sold more than 100,000 copies over the past two years. Karlins' other successful publications have included "Read 'Em and Reap," a guide to picking up poker tells at the gaming table. That book, published in 2008, is available in 23 languages. FACULTY/STAFF NOTES

Michael Noel has been hired as a consultant serving Highlands, Hardee and DeSoto counties for the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF. He has more than 30 years experience in marketing, finance and operational roles and also has worked as a financial advisor. He has a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University.

Dan Bradley, professor in the finance department, is the recipient of the Faculty Outstanding Research Achievement Award for research he conducted last year. The award will be presented to Bradley and other USF researchers at the Faculty Awards Luncheon on Oct. 23.
- Lisa Junkerman ('84, Marketing) is the new chief marketing officer and director of corporate development with ITEC Entertainment Corp. She leads worldwide corporate development, marketing and public relations as well as branding, website development and social media. Junkerman previously worked for Motorola and Progress Energy (now Duke Energy).
- Anika Hasan ('16, Finance) is now a legislative fellow in the Michigan House of Representatives in Lansing, Michigan. She previously had been a law clerk at two law firms and before that, she was the director of community affairs at USF Student Government.
- Belicia Montgomery ('17, MS and MBA, Sport & Entertainment Management)has been named analytics specialist with Minor League Baseball. Prior to her appointment, Montgomery held marketing positions in the University of South Florida's Athletic Department and at H&R Block.
- Marcy Benton ('93, MS Business Administration) was promoted to vice president of talent management at the Publix headquarters in Lakeland. Her duties include associate relations, associate services, diversity, policies and procedures, recruiting and selection and performance management.
