WELCOME 2017-2018 ART DOCENTS
Training: Mon, Sept 25th
A big thank you to all the wonderful parents who have volunteered to be Art Docents for this school year. Almost all of our classrooms have docents and are ready to begin lessons next month. Please join us on
Monday, September 25th at 7pm, in the Rockwell library, for a quick meeting to learn about the program. You will get helpful ideas for making the lessons run smoothly, see a sample lesson, check out the supplies, and get answers to any questions you may have. I hope to see you there!
We still have a need for Art Docents in
Mr. Corey's 4th grade classroom and Ms. Ianni's 5th grade classroom. If you have students in either of these classrooms please consider volunteering. No experience is needed and all lessons and supplies are provided. This is just a once a month commitment but one that means so much to the students. Please help make it possible for all students to enjoy the program! Email
jabalkcum@hotmail.com if you can help.
Thank you!

SAFETY MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Rockwell Families,
Greetings from the office, and congratulations on an excellent start to the school year! It's been fun visiting each of our classrooms and seeing the rigorous learning that is already taking place. I'm also thrilled that so many of our Beagles have already been nominated to the Beagle's Den for being Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind. Way to go!
Team, as we settle in to our school routines, I want to offer some reminders about safety during our student drop-off and pick-ups at the beginning and end of the school day:
- A quick reminder that the speed limit is 20 miles per hour around our school before and after school. This speed will help us keep a close eye on our Beagles and give us plenty of time to respond in case one of our students makes an unexpected choice.
- When dropping off students by car, please use the upper right lane and continue to pull forward. Once students pass the mailbox, they may get out on the passenger side.
- Children should be dropped off after 8:15 am as there is no earlier supervision in the car lane
- Please keep the upper left lane open to through traffic.
- Thank you for keeping handicap spaces open for designated vehicles.
- Please do not park in the small lot to the right of the bus lane, as this is staff parking
- When turning from 162nd to 110th, please make sure to use your blinker and wait for the crossing guards to return before making your turn.
Thank you, everyone, for helping us keep safety at a premium each day! I appreciate it.

ABOUT PTA MEMBERSHIP
In the midst of the "blur" of the first couple weeks of school, I wanted to take a moment to "clarify" a question you may be asking yourself:
Why should I join the Norman Rockwell PTA?
It's a great question, and we have some great reasons for you to join!
1. It's a one-year membership! Regardless of where you'll end up when the school boundaries change, you can make a difference this year in your child's education by joining the PTA.
2. It's cost-effective! For less than five cents a day, you can join the largest child advocacy association in the USA, with over 4 million members.
3. It's a great way to get involved! Your membership ensures that you have a voice and a vote for how funds are allocated and distributed for our school's programs and improvements.
4. It comes with some awesome benefits! Examples include (but are not limited to) discounts at: Wild Waves Theme Park, Baskin-Robbins, Great Wolf Lodge, multiple car rental facilities, and printing orders through Fed Ex Office.
For those of you who have already joined-thank you! Your contribution is greatly appreciated. For those of you who haven't, it's not too late, and it's easy to do! Just go to the
PTA Website, mouse over "PTA" on the left side of the screen, and click "Join Today." (If you haven't created an account on the website yet, you can do that at the same time.)
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out or read more about
PTA here. I want to make this process as helpful and seamless as possible for everyone. My email is
membership@normanrockwellpta.org.
Let's make this our kids' best year ever!
