ST. PHILIP PAGES AND BLOGS

Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

Happy 90th anniversary to us!  Ninety years ago a small Catholic school opened with fifty students.  The first graduation was in 1930 for a class of six.  Since then, thousands of students have graduated from St. Philip.  So many have given so much so that our children can have a St. Philip education.  I am grateful to those who started the school in 1927 and to all those who continued to support it up to today.  We all have benefited from their commitment to St. Philips and to Catholic education.  May there be many more years of it to come.

Thank you for your attendance and support at our two Back to School Nights last week.  Thank you also for your contributions to our Dollar Dress Day for hurricane relief.  We raised $1,185.25 which was sent to Catholic Charities for their hurricane relief fund. Catholic Charities is the official domestic relief agency of the US Catholic Church and one hundred percent of our donation goes directly to the relief efforts.

At our Back to School Nights I asked you to try to find time to read the Falcon Flyer and comment on the stories that our students are writing.  Your response has truly warmed my heart.  Your comments are wonderful and I know that our junior journalists appreciate them.  Thank you for responding and appreciating our students' work.   In case you haven't yet read it, here is the link to the Learning Commons blog.  You'll find it there.   Enjoy!   www.falconsfables.org

Have a wonderful week,
Jennifer

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND EVENTS
HOT LUNCH
Ordering is now open for October. If you have never ordered hot lunch and want to set up an account for the first time, go to www.boonli.com and use the school password falcon174 to create your profile.

EARLY PICK UP BY A NON-PARENT
Students that are going to be picked up during the school day by someone other than a parent will need a written note from a parent, that includes the date and signature of a parent. No student will be released to anyone unless a release is verified in writing by the parent. The staff may ask for identification if the staff does not know the person. The Car Pool list is only used for after school pick up and Emergency Cards are used only when your child is sick or injured or in case of earthquake or another emergency.

A PLACE FOR THE CHILDREN
The Parish Pastoral Council invites all parishioners to an informational meeting about the Parish's vision to re-imagine a classroom in the  Ministry Building as a "Parish Children's Center."
This new facility, which would include a secure outdoor play area, would be a resource for all Parish ministries. Initial plans envision the facility being used as a Transitional Kindergarten on school days during the morning and early afternoon hours; as an instructional and recreational resource for young children in our after school and weekend Religious Education program; and as a dedicated space for some of our youngest parishioners during Children's Liturgy on Sundays.
Please plan to join us on Monday, September 25th at 7PM in Room B of the Parish Center for a brief presentation about the proposed Parish Children's Center. Parish Pastoral Council members will be available to answer your questions and gather your valuable feedback on this project. Refreshments will be provided.

I hope everyone is settling into school at this point.  If you are a new family, you should have received an email from me instructing you how to log and register on the school website. If you have not done so, please take a couple minutes to do so today.  You cannot log in volunteer hours until you are registered.  If you have questions, email me (Amy Miller) at  [email protected].

IF I AM NEW TO THE SCHOOL, HOW DO I REGISTER TO ENTER SERVICE HOURS?
1-Go to the school website, http://www.stphiliptheapostle.org/school/
2-Select "Sign In" on the right side of the page.
3-Select "Create an account" and enter the required information.
4-This will generate an email to the admin. You will not be able to access your account until you receive
an email stating that your account is active.

Helpful tip for the week (from the service hours guidelines published online):

CAN I EARN HOURS FOR PURCHASING SUPPLIES?
Yes! Items purchased for scheduled classroom and/or school events may be redeemed for service hours. Every $25.00 spent equals 1 service hour. The original receipt must be attached to the signed coupon. These hours cannot be turned in electronically.
Gift cards can also be purchased for needed items for an event such as the fall fest and dinner dance/ auction. Items purchased at a store need a receipt. Gift cards purchased through scrip do not need a receipt.
