A Final Note From Vicki Boeckman

Hello dear Portlandiers,

What a pleasure it has been to witness the growth and evolution of the Portland Recorder Society over these 7 years. I have been honored to be your musical director and part of the incredible team of hard-working, dedicated recorder-loving board members, both past and present. As most of you know, I live in Seattle and have been happy to do the commute, but I always felt that PRS would be better served by a local leader - one who could establish continuity, implant visions for the future, and be present at most events. Now that Laura Kuhlman has moved to Portland, I truly believe you have that leader!

I would like to hereby officially announce that I will be stepping down as music director and passing the baton over to Laura.

Ever since I met and worked with Laura at the 2011 Columbia Gorge Early Music Retreat I knew she would be the perfect replacement if and when she moved. She fell in love with Portland and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and we all fell in love with her energy, wit, and impressive diverse talents.

Therefore, dear ones, it is not with a heavy heart that I hand over the reins, but with a heart full of admiration and confidence that PRS will be in fabulous hands! I will still come down to lead as guest conductor and teach lessons on occasion, so this is not adieu, but simply au revoir!

Rumor has it that Member's Night will be a splendid event this year. I look forward to being there and sharing it with you.

Vicki

Welcome Laura Kuhlman!
Hello members of PRS!

Four years ago, PRS invited me to teach at the Columbia Gorge Retreat and I was immediately in love with Portland and the surrounding areas. I knew I needed to find a way to move here and now here I am!

It is with much gratitude and enjoyment to be part of the Portland Recorder Society. I am thrilled to be not only an active member but also to take on the role of music director. Of course I have big shoes to fill and have much respect for what Vicki Boeckman has built and inspired in this chapter and its members.

I bring with me not only my arsenal of instruments but also my love for all things recorder. I really enjoy leading chapter meetings and presenting music from all genres, including some of my own arrangements. I look forward to meeting all of you, remembering your names and continuing to build on the foundation that has been so expertly laid.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Laura

PRO=Portland Recorder Orchestra
There is still time to join the Portland Recorder Orchestra and play our summer season!  We entertain the crowds at the Portland Sundays Parkways, and whatever gigs come along.  We are a group of about twenty enthusiastic players of recorders and like minded instruments who join to play Renassiance and English country dancing tunes.  The format is informal, we usually play outside or in public places and we often end up standing to play.  If you have at least intermediate skills, like to play continuously for at least an hour,  and enjoy playing in front of impromptu crowds, shoot me an email: ellenmendoza_lido@yahoo.com or give me a call (503-504-4501) to join the fun!
