Whew! The NEASC Accreditation Visitation is now behind us! Our evaluation went very well and we received many affirmations of the very important work we do here at NC. A very big thank you goes out to the NC School Board, faculty, staff, parents, and students who participated in this process. Most importantly, I want to sincerely thank the NEASC team of Mrs. Matson Champagne, Mrs. Maloney, and Mrs. Pinsonneault, who graciously volunteered their time and talent, writing and editing the final 83 page report. It is important to note that we could not have done any of this if it weren't for the great organizational and planning skills of Mrs. Matson-Champagne!

Did you know that the faculty reads an educational book and has dedicated book discussions every new school year? This year, we are reading The Power of the Adolescent Brain: Strategies for Teaching.  Middle and High School Students, by Thomas Armstrong. So far, we have had two sessions of discussions and activities to help us enhance our understanding of the adolescent brain and to discover why this knowledge is so important for us to integrate into our practice as educators. It is our goal to implement a few of the practices we are learning so that we can see some remarkable changes in the behaviors, attitudes, and achievement level of our adolescent learners. The book discussions are being led by our Inspiring Leadership Intern, Mrs. Gauvin.

Hot off the Press News! Friday, November 18 will be an early release day for a teacher workshop. This is an addition to our school calendar. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. There will be no after school care or clubs that day. Basketball, cheerleading, and wrestling team members should check with their  coaches and Mr. Farris about practices. There are no games or meets that day.

Lastly, have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. We are very thankful to all of our families for choosing Nashua Catholic for their child's 7th and 8th grade years!

Peace and blessings,

Glenda McFadden

It's no TRICK, donate your TREATS!
Create a win-win-win situation by donating your unwanted Halloween candy at the front desk on Nov 1-2th .  Thanks to Girl Scout troop 10203, your children will eat less candy, soldiers overseas will get a treat from back home, and money raised will be donated to the Thank You Project to provide equipment to dig fresh water wells and provide student scholarships in two Nigerian villages.  Turn your goodies into good deeds and bring your unwanted candy to fill the buckets at the front desk!

Faith in Action

NET Retreat at NC will occur on
Wednesday, November 2, for the 8th grade, and Thursday, November 3, for the 7th grade.

What is a NET retreat? It is a one-day retreat led by a team of youths committed to helping fellow youth understand and accept God's unconditional love for them, and to grow in their commitment to Jesus Christ and His church. NET offers the team members' faith as witness to youth that faith in God is desirable, acceptable, and an exciting part of their lives.

Thank you to th e Hansen, LaPlante, Vegliante, Corriveau, DeNeill, and Finn   Families for so graciously housing our retreat team.  Blessings to you!

In Appreciation of Fr. Chris
Fr. Chris Martel (right) is our Chaplain at Nashua Catholic and Pastor of St. John Neumann Parish. As we celebrate Priesthood Sunday, now is the perfect time to thank him for his commitment.   Mrs. Graves of SJN has set up a "Sign Up Genius" site for people to sign up to make meals or prepare snacks for Fr. Chris and drop them off at Saint John Neumann.  The link has some specific details (please read it carefully) and allows you to sign up:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0e45a5ab2ca13-sos

Mrs. M-C is at SJN each weekend, and would be glad to transport food to the church for you as needed. Just let her know.

If you just called the SJN office before 4p, (880-4689) they could verify if someone was still going to be in the building to let you in...often times, as you can probably guess...it's Fr!
Our Good Deacon Cloutier
Our Bake Sale was a huge success for Deacon Cloutier.  Nashua Catholic's support was tremendous.

Deacon Tom is, currently, at the Elliot in Manchester and may be transferred around November 9th.

Here is the E-card link if you'd like to use it now.    https://elliothospital.org/website/pfs_card.asp

Thank you for all your efforts, prayers, and consideration of Deacon Cloutier.

Athletic Headlines

Bring on the winter! Well, maybe not the snow and the cold part, but how about some Wildcat basketball, cheerleading, and wrestling to warm up our gym? That's right, the winter season is now upon us here at Nashua Catholic. With the fall sports wrapped up, it's time to turn the page and shift the focus to our winter athletes.
Cheerleading is first on the list for our Nashua Catholic student-athletes. Cheerleading is coming off a very productive competition season last year where they brought a trophy home with them, every single competition! This year's team looks to start that winning pace at their first try-out being held on November 1.
Basketball - After an off-season with many changes, our Wildcat basketball players are ready to take the court. The ball bins have been rolled out, the hoops are lowered, and they know it's time to turn on their game. Returning boys" coach, Paul Williams, is excited for what a new season can bring, and he is anxious to get back out on the hardwood. New girls' basketball coach, Dave Schaub, joins Nashua Catholic and hopes to make an immediate impact. The girls from a year ago capped off a successful year with a New England Regional Championship, at the NECYO Tournament, in Connecticut.
Wrestling coaches, Angelica and PJ Levesque, are eager for another campaign on the mats. The excitement of introducing the growing sport to newcomers and the thrill of bringing back experienced 8th graders make this team one to watch. All the action on the mat begins Saturday, November 12, as Nashua Catholic hosts its annual open instructional clinic. All wrestlers are encouraged to attend, regardless of their experience. One last note, with a female coach leading the way, all girls who are interested in wrestling are urged to come out and give this sport a try!

GO WILDCATS!

Closings and Delayed Openings, A Quick Review
snowflakes2.jpg

If Nashua Public Schools close or have a delay, Nashua Catholic will  have the same.  Nashua Catholic's closings and delays will be listed on WMUR and on our website.
  • A 90-minute delay means Morning Cafe opens at 8:30 A.M.
  • Please make backup transportation plans now for any day that after school programs are canceled due to snow or inclement weather.
Clarification for Homeroom/Study Hall

This year we are trying something new with our 2 weekly study halls that take place in the homeroom setting. All girl and all boy homerooms were established to refocus the students towards academics. Study hall time is offered for those students who are not in band, chorus, or MakerSpace. The purpose of study hall is for students to work independently or receive academic help from a teacher. Students may seek out teachers for extra help, retake tests, and make an appointment for the computer lab, do homework and study. So far, it has been very successful. Nashua Catholic has no other gendered classes, nor are there plans to go forward with gendered classes. Sometimes, rumors need to be addressed. I hope this information helps to clarify our goal and to allay any concerns you may have.
