2014 Annual Meeting
at Greenway Farms
Saturday, November 8th 
    

On Saturday, November 8th the Tennessee Valley Chapter of Wild Ones membership will gather at beautiful Greenway Farms to review 2014 and prepare for another great year in 2015.  Morning snacks, beverages, and lunch will be provided. This is our one best opportunity to join together and collectively provide input into the future of our chapter. The meeting will end with another fabulous plant swap and a nature walk with ecologist John Evans. More details are below.

Bring a labeled native plant or bag of seeds...and take home a new plant or seed!

1:00-2:00pm - Guided Nature Walk with John Evans
Our gathering will end with a one-hour guided nature walk with botanist and ecologist John Evans.  During his walk John will discuss the ecology of invasive plant species, identify the most damaging offenders, and show how best to manage them. 

John Evans  

John's work includes research on plant community responses to climate change and the ecology of invasive plant species at Oak Ridge National Environmental Research Park.  Most recently he conducted an inventory of the vascular plants of the Sequatchie Valley, TN.
2015 Native Plant Symposium
Speakers Finalized       
Kelly Holdbrooks

Our speakers for the 2015 TVWO Native Plant Symposium have been finalized.  We are very happy to announce that Kelly Holdbrooks, program director at Southern Highlands Reserve, has agreed to be our third and final speaker at the 2015 Native Plant Symposium. Ms. Holdbrooks is an honors graduate from the college of Environment and Design at the University of Georgia where she received a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture.  She has more than a decade of experience designing and working with gardens in Western North Carolina.  The title of her talk will be "Designing the Living Landscape".

 

Kelly will be joined by award winning entomologist and writer Dr. Douglas Tallamy and "Butterflies of Tennessee author Rita Venable.

Weekend Field Trip to Reelfoot Lake
 with Leon Bates
October 24-26
Join us for a three-day excursion to this beautiful natural wonder in Northwest Tennessee.  Carpools will leave on Friday and return Sunday afternoon.  The trip will be highlighted by a 3-hour pontoon boat excursion on Saturday morning.  Lodging available at the Cypress Point Resort.  

 

This trip is for Wild Ones members only.  

Limit 20 participants.

Carpools leave Chattanooga Friday at 8am 

and return by 5pm on Sunday.
