Learning Community
Innovation Zone (LCIZ)

The Learning Community Innovation Zone (LCIZ) held it's first maker workshop Sunday with a rocket building and launching event. On Wednesday the LCIZ hosted another workshop which featured Halloween mask making. The workshop was led by a Puppetry student, Isaac Bloodworth, where the group learned techniques in making masks out of burlap.  If you are interested in future workshops in topics such as; Google Cardboard, Dinnerplate Hovercrafts, and Scribbling Machine, be sure to check your emails!

Monday, October 24, the LCIZ kicked off open hours where LC students could utilize the space for academic and personal projects.  The space will continue to be open Monday-Friday 12-5 p.m. throughout the course of the Fall semester.
If you would like to take advantage of the LCIZ open hours (Monday-Friday 12-5 p.m.), please be sure that you complete the safety training, which can be found on HuskyCT.  If you cannot find the safety training on your HuskyCT, or if you have ideas of workshop topics, please contact Cody Ryan at cody.d.ryan@uconn.edu.

Julia Cartabiano, Manager of Spring Valley Student Farm Receives Staff Award as part of The Environmental Leadership Awards

Congratulations to Julia and Spring Valley Student Farm, an extension of EcoHouse for winning the Staff Award as part of The Environmental Leadership Awards. The Environmental Leadership Awards (ELAs) presented by UConn's Office of Environmental Policy, were created as a way to honor those individuals that have truly excelled in their efforts to contribute to environmental awareness and promote progress in our 'green' efforts. These individuals  have worked with other groups to make real, immediate improvements in the sustainability of our campus and beyond.
