Farm Notes:

The potluck even featured a rainbow!

Last Saturday we hosted our CSA member appreciation potluck. It was wonderful to see so many new and long-time members. After ten years of the CSA so many members are now like family.

We are so grateful that you are members. Without you Farmer Dave's would not be what it is. When I think over the last ten years of the CSA, I am amazed at the lives that we have touched. Not only the lives of those members and their families who appreciate the healthy, flavorful, and diverse food that can be grown locally, but also the change in the lives of those who have helped to grow the food. Farm team and member families better understand the hard work that goes into growing and all the risks that are accepted knowing the fluctuations in New England weather.

Gathering together for a meal after some fun on the farm is the way life should be. We hope to have more opportunities in the future to ensure this happens. If you missed the potluck, you can still get out to see and enjoy the farm. Hayrides and apple picking will continue every weekend for at least the next month at the home farm in Dracut and at our Hill Orchard in Westford. Committed to educating the next generation, we are also offering limited school tours this year. We have noticed that many in the younger generations are very far removed from our agrarian heritage. Bringing them to the farm often will help them better understand the basics of soils and food.

To feeding the body and the soul through nature!

Farmer Dave

Apple Picking
For a sustainable farm like Farmer Dave's, part of investing in the future is planting new trees. 6 years ago, with dreams of a fruitful tomorrow, we planted over 2000 apple trees at our Parker Road farm in Dracut.

Now, that fruitful tomorrow is here! We are delighted that the trees are producing enough fruit for us to be able to offer pick-your-own apples on weekends in Dracut, as well as at Hill Orchard in Westford! We also offer  school tours at both locations.

For hours, pricing, and more, visit http://www.farmerdaves.net/pick-your-own. We'll also have hayrides, cider donuts, and more!

Remember, 2017 CSA members receive 25% off PYO apples when they present their Good Apple Cards!

Vegisode of the Week:
Visiting the Cabbage Patch

All about cabbage! Nutrient content, storage, and recipes!

Recipes: Cabbage Steaks (with optional blue cheese, bacon and fried eggs), Napa Cabbage Salad, Tangy Cabbage and Kielbasa Soup

As the summer progresses we'll be adding more local and seasonal products.  For the food preservers in the group, we will be offering bulk quantities of some of our vegetables and fruits, on weeks that we have extra available.
Groundwork Share-a-Share Update

Thanks to generous donations by you (CSA members) to the Groundwork Share-A-Shareâ„¢ fund, we were able to subsidize the cost of shares in 2016 for over thirty individuals and families, as well as shares for local food pantries.
