Meow...
My human deserves something special. My food dish is never empty, my water is always clear and cold, my cat box is fresh and clean, plus I am seldom starved for attention, except when I want to be.
What can I do as an extra special reward? Hmmm. Jumping up on her lap and laying on the finger tapper is usually a winner although I can tell she doesn't always appreciate being interrupted. Hmmm, not special enough this time...
Maybe I can hide one of her socks? That's always good for a laugh!
How about an extra-long scurry ending with a furious yet gentle attack on her ankles? No, that's too predictable.
I've got it. She just loves it when I grab one of my catnip toys, trumpet around the house and then drop the toys with a special "how about that" flourish. Only this time I'll seize my two favorite toys, my furry mouse and aromatic banana, carry them around for a while, then drop them at her feet, then attack!
Oh, the life of a pampered feline!
Memo to cat owners:
Catnip toys offer a good way for cat owners to help their feline companions get the exercise they need. Most cats like their catnip playthings. However, like children's toys, catnip toys need to be periodically inspected for safety. They can wear out, pieces can fall or be nibbled off, fabric can rip and the toy can become unsafe.

Designing Cures4Cats

Calling all creative cat lovers everywhere!
Winn Feline Foundation is calling all creative cat lovers everywhere to enter our contest and submit an original creative design for our new initiative, Cures4Cats.
The winner will receive an award of $250.00, plus wide recognition as the designer and winner. There will also be two honorable mention designs, with the designs and designers also widely shared. The winning design must become the property of Winn to be used on promotional items such as tee shirts.
We are very excited about our new Cures4Cats Day and all the activities planned for Winn's 50th Anniversary. Winn knows that there are many creative cat lovers, and we are looking forward to your design submissions!

Recognizing Scholarship

Casey Clements
|
Ms. Casey Clements was selected to be the recipient of the 2017 Winn Feline Foundation and American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) Student Scholarship.
The annual scholarship of $2,500 is awarded to a third or fourth year student who demonstrates an interest in feline veterinary medicine and a history of leadership in activities that benefit the health and welfare of cats, including research, shelter work, cat clubs and other community service programs.
Casey, a native of Raleigh, N.C., is a fourth year student at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Clements' research efforts have focused on assisting the investigation of the chronic administration of omeprazole in cats.
Her long-term goal is to work in a feline-only clinic, or bring feline-friendly practices to a small animal clinic or emergency clinic.

In spite of our best efforts to clearly and concisely communicate information to our clients or to employees in training, our words don't always stick. It can be frustrating for the one doing the educating. The consequences can be much worse for our patients!

Important Planned Giving Tip for September

The Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers about fake charities soliciting contributions for hurricane relief.
The IRS suggests ways to avoid scam artists posing as charitable organizations by following these tips (edited for brevity): "Be sure to donate to recognized charities. Be wary of charities with names that are similar to familiar or nationally known organizations. ... Don't give out personal financial information - such as Social Security numbers or credit card and bank account numbers and passwords - to anyone who solicits a contribution. ... Never give or send cash... contribute by check or credit card or another way that provides documentation of the donation."
