October E-News
Heartland Needs YOU to become a Stable Supporter!

We've set a goal to reach 20 new Stable Supporters before the month of October is over, and we need your help!

What is a Stable Supporter? A Stable Supporter is a monthly donor who provides ongoing, stable funding that we can count on to operate our unique animal and people programs. We love monthly donors because they help reduce administrative costs, which means donations go directly where they're needed most!

With your monthly gift you can choose to sponsor an animal, support our unique and healing people programs or give in honor of our animal rescue and care work - whatever you choose, your gift is saving lives!

Check out our Stable Supporter perks and become a member of the Stable Supporter family today!

Thanksgiving FOR the Turkeys: Tickets on sale now!

Undoubtedly one of Heartland's most popular events, our 6th Annual  Thanksgiving FOR the Turkeys will take place on Saturday, November 19th! Join us at the Heartland barn as we celebrate Thanksgiving in a whole new way -- by feeding the turkeys a holiday feast of their own! After the turkeys (and ducks and chickens!) gobble up the food, take a barn tour and meet the rest of our farm animal friends. Doors open at 10 AM, the feast starts at 10:30.

Heartland featured on Wisconsin Public Television's "Wisconsin Life"!

Your very own Heartland Farm Sanctuary was recently featured on Wisconsin Public TV's "Wisconsin Life" program. If you missed us, never fear! You can watch the video right here. And remember, if you still haven't been to the barn and met our friendly animals and people, you still have time to sign up for a public tour!
In Memory of Nilly the Goat
On Wednesday we said goodbye to Nilly the goat, who spent the last two years as a boarder at the Heartland barn. She had recently fallen ill, and while we were hopeful she could be treated, our vet ultimately believed Nilly had lymphoma. Nilly's mom, Carol, made the very compassionate decision to not let her suffer when it became clear that Nilly was uncomfortable. She was 13 and a half years old.

Nilly was a beautiful and gentle giant, and a benevolent ruler in her old age. From day one, every member of the goat and sheep herd respected her. Carol visited Nilly often, and Nilly would cry out with happiness when she saw her mom arrive! Carol took the best care of her girl, and became a part of our family just like Nilly. We will all miss sweet Nilly, and are so thankful she got to spend her golden years at Heartland.
Heartland thanks you!
October Volunteer of the Month: Tom Engelbrecht
Meet Tom Engelbrecht, our amazing October Volunteer of the Month! Tom is a dedicated animal care volunteer who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty with hard work. While he's great at barn chores, he doesn't stop there. He's always up for challenging tasks and even helped Heartland come up with a fire plan, and place all of our fire extinguishers in the barn. We can't thank you enough, Tom!  Read more...

Thank you to the Green Owl!
This month Heartland wants to give many thanks to The Green Owl Cafe in Madison. The Green Owl is Madison's only all vegetarian/vegan restaurant and donated their delicious chili, cornbread and chocolate truffles for our Stable Supporter Appreciation Party in September. All of our guests went home with full and happy bellies, thanks to their generosity! Be sure to check them out for delicious brunch, lunch and dinner options, and fabulous cocktails, too!
November's Volunteer Information Session
Our next Volunteer Information Session will be Wednesday, November 16th at the Heartland barn! Join us from 6-7 PM to learn all about becoming a Heartland volunteer! Guests will take a short barn tour after the orientation. Heartland is located at 11713 Mid Town Road in Verona, WI. Send your RSVP to [email protected].
Winter is coming, and our pigs need blankets!
It's that time of year again - there's a chill in the air and every animal care shift ends with tucking in the pigs for bed. We are in need of large blankets or comforters to ensure our big pigs stay cozy and warm this winter! If you're interested in donating new or used blankets, please email Alecia. Winnie, Maxine and Beatrice thank you!
