VBS COIN COLLECTION

This summer, the VBS kids collected coins to contribute toward the Clean Water Project through Episcopal Relief Development. During Rally Day, our Sunday School kids came down the aisle with a wagon to collect any loose coins contributed by the congregation for this effort. Just from this collection, VBS raised $729.49! Thank you for your support!

* FALL ADULT BIBLE STUDY *
THE PATH: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE
9/13 – 10/26 WEDNESDAY EVENINGS -7:00-8:00 PM
IN THE CHAPEL ON THE CLOISTER

“The Path” is a fabulous curriculum designed for adults who want to learn more and who are thirsty to drink in the whole breadth and depth of the biblical narrative. All materials will be provided, and the idea is that each participant completes about a one hour reading assignment out of the scripture during the course of the week. Then, in our hour together, we talk about the passage, where it fits into the whole biblical narrative, and where it speaks to us today. This is mostly discussion, not lecture. Editor Melody Schobe, a graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary, has woven together texts in such a way as to make the path clear, and accessible, and rich. (Read more about it on the Forward Day by Day website.)

The Old Testament story of Esther is a profile in courage and contains many modern parallels for today’s overloaded and stressed woman.

Esther, while a queen, lived as an outsider in a hostile environment. Women will learn strong lessons of faith, providence, and hope to equip them to live courageously “for such a time as this.”

TRINITY HISTORY NOTE

On July 31, 1925, Trinity entered a contract that “provided for raising the Church Building 4-1/2 feet, placing the church floor 1 foot 2 inches above the 12 foot grade or high water mark of the 1915 storm. (Cost $17,225). In Oct., filling was placed in the church and a concrete floor laid with provision for heating ducts ($8,270)”

Episcopal Relief & Development works closely with church partners after disasters, equipping them to meet needs of those most vulnerable in their communities. Currently, our staff is responding to areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, and watching developing tropical storms. Because of our strong diocesan partnerships, Episcopal Relief & Development is ready to assist in the recovery of the impacted areas for as long as necessary. You can help provide critical relief to affected communities by donating to our Hurricane Relief Fund. To donate and read the latest updates, visit   episcopalrelief.org/irma

A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR
re: Discernment of a Way Forward Regarding Gay Marriage

At this January’s annual parish meeting, I had the opportunity to share with you all several priorities for this year of 2017. One priority was to form a working group of parishioners who were willing to meet, study, and pray about whether or not Trinity Church should become a location in which gay marriage might take place. The Diocese of Texas has a very structured process for this work—a structure that we are adhering to closely. The vestry, wardens, and clergy are not all of one mind about what the result should be, but we are all of one mind that we want to have the conversation.

We have begun our work, and will make a recommendation to the vestry before the December 2017 vestry meeting. The group might recommend that our clergy are authorized to officiate at gay marriages in our sanctuary, or anywhere else, according to diocesan guidelines and procedures. The group might recommend that our clergy are not authorized to officiate at gay marriages at any location. The group might recommend that our clergy may officiate at gay marriage off site, but not in our sanctuary. In December, the vestry will make a decision based on the recommendations of the discernment group. Our clergy are committed to obeying whatever decision is made by your elected leaders.

Listed below are the discernment group members and their email contact information. They/we represent the broad diversity of Trinity parish’s members. We welcome input, concerns, and conversation from everyone in the church as we move forward over the next several months. Feel free to contact any of us so that your voice may be heard.

However, by owner’s terms, cars must leave the lot soon after services, lunches, weddings and funerals or risk being locked in behind the fence.
