Did you know that August is National Water Quality Month?
By following these general tips and practices, businesses can support a healthy environment for your neighborhood, customers, employees, and our local waterways:
- Keep the outside of dumpsters and other trash receptacles clear of debris and keep lids closed. Water that enters trash receptacles and leaks out becomes litter that contaminates our waterways.
- Regularly inspect and replace dumpsters and other trash receptacles as needed.
- Ensure the size of your dumpster is appropriate for the trash load of your business.
- Properly bag trash before putting it in the dumpster.
- Do not hose out dumpsters. Apply absorbent over any fluids spilled in dumpster.
- Sweep your store front and common areas and keep storm drains clear of trash.
- Keep hazardous waste out of trash receptacles (this includes e-waste, appliances, paint, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, cleaning chemicals, pesticides, etc.) Visit the website of the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County for more information.
