Berkshire Pork Ready to Ship
We are very excited to offer you Berkshire pork raised by our producing partner, Bountiful Ventures, in Bountiful, Colorado. Berkshire pork is a heritage breed that was discovered over 300 years ago in Berkshire County, in the United Kingdom. Berkshire pork is the most highly sought after pork in the world. Visibly different from commodity pork that you might find in your local grocery store, it is darker in color and has an abundance of intramuscular marbling. Berkshire pork is renowned for its richness, texture, marbling, juiciness, tenderness, and overall depth of flavor. It is thought by many to be the Kobe beef of pork.

Mitch Buhr, owner of Bountiful Ventures, is as particular about feeding his pigs as we are about our cattle. They are fed sprouted non GMO wheat, milo, barley, and peas, as well as alfalfa and grass hay. They are never fed any corn or soy beans.

Thought you might enjoy seeing some pictures of the pigs.
They are in all stages - from weaners to nearly finished pigs.

No Shipping Labor Day Week

We won't be shipping Monday, September 4th. UPS is closed that day, so we don't have enough time to be sure that your meat would not sit in a warehouse somewhere over the following weekend if there were any problems or delays.

We will also be taking the opportunity to head to Texas that week to celebrate Allan's mom's 90th birthday. His brother and sister will also be there. Some of the grand and great grand kids may not be able to attend, but most of us will be there and should have a nice time.

New Email Addresses
I am in the process of changing our email addresses to Gmail addresses. Hopefully the process will go smoothly, but I am expecting some glitches and surprises. I will be checking the old addresses into the future, so if you experience any problems on your end you can contact me either by phone or by the old addresses. The new addresses are as follows:

Update On My Garden
Anyone who has a garden surely realizes that after doing all of the work planting, watering, fertilizing, and nursing it along, the produce in the grocery store looks awfully cheap. However, growing  your own fruits and vegetables is the best therapy in the world, and harvesting the produce is deeply rewarding. I encourage you that even if you don't have the time or space for a real garden, container gardening on your deck or patio is an awful lot of fun and is still very rewarding.

We have had a lot of rain in the last couple of weeks, and my garden is definitely showing the results of nature's incredibly fertilizing moisture. There is nothing that compares to the boost that the rain gives to the vegetables - just one of the reasons that greenhouses don't produce as well as an outside garden. However, a surprise hail storm will remind me why I have a greenhouse.

Thought you might like to see some pictures I took last weekend

Another storm coming

My strawberry patch is doing great. I planted some tomatoes, too.

One of my mums from last year that I nursed along in the greenhouse, blooming and looking great.
Love my greenhouse!

While a few of the potatoes did not do, most of them are looking great. Treasures to be dug up in the fall.

Melons growing both in the greenhouse and in the outside garden.

Garlic
Onions
Asparagus
The outside garden is thriving
Cauliflower

Green beans - the purple ones turn green when cooked.

Beets
Zucchini
Yellow Squash

Bell peppers
Popcorn
Chili peppers

On a lark I planted an artichoke in the greenhouse. We will see if it produces for me.

I planted squash in the same pots with my tomatoes and that seems to be going well. I am starting to get quite a few cherry tomatoes.

In Closing . . .
The cattle are doing great, and responding very well to all of the moisture. Sure helps Allan with the never ending job of irrigating. We were blessed recently with two baby calves from some heifers that we thought were open. What a nice surprise.

Our inventory of beef is good again. We apologize for the shortage, but things looks good from now on - I hope. Or maybe not, as that probably means that demand is high and we are selling out. The good, the bad. Oh well.

We appreciate all of you so much. So many of you are so very loyal, and your notes of gratitude for what we do are very much appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

God bless you. Have a wonderful August.

Lois & Allan
