If you are a Cubs fan and heading toward Wrigley for the next game, the CTA is providing extra services to Wrigley. See details below. Police presence will be increased for the game on Saturday. There is another police alert about robberies in the area. Please alert neighbors so they are also aware of the reported incidents. There have also been a series of robberies on the 606 Trail. Police have stepped up patrols on the trail during nighttime hours but are encouraging people to always run or walk with a friend at night.

During the city budget hearings taking place this week and next, the Mayor's staff reiterated their new approach to police manpower that includes extensive hiring for the first time in several years. The number of newly hired police officers will increase slightly over the next few months, but no details about where probationary officers will be assigned has been released. If you would like to attend the police department briefing it is open to the public. The police portion of the budget hearings is slated for Thursday, October 27th on the second floor of City Hall and will start about 11 a.m.

The Office of the Inspector General has published the latest quarterly report, that includes information on the sentencing of city employee John Bills, who was involved in the red light camera scandal.  A Redflex executive was also recently implicated in the corruption scandal

There are several upcoming Halloween Events for the family.  This weekend is the annual Roscoe Village Halloween parade and party  from 2-4 p.m. Watch the Lane Tech Marching Band perform while the kids trick-or-treat at Roscoe businesses.

Have a nice weekend,
Alderman Scott Waguespack

FREE Seminar from Circuit Court of Cook County Elder Justice Center
Financial scams targeting seniors have become so prevalent that they're now considered "the crime of the 21st century." You may be asking yourself why? The answer is because seniors are thought to have a significant amount of money sitting in their bank accounts. Financial scams involving older adults also often go unreported or can be difficult to prosecute, so they're considered a "low-risk" crime. These crimes are devastating to many older adults and can leave them in a very vulnerable position with little time to recoup their losses.
Please join the Circuit Court of Cook County Elder Justice Center on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, to participate in a seminar discussion as part of its Senior Enrichment Seminar Series entitled "Common Financial Frauds and Scams that Target Seniors". A detailed description of topics to be discussed at the seminar is indicated below:
Topics to include :
  • Learn about common financial frauds and scams such as reverse mortgages, home repair, Medicare prescription drug, and investment scams
  • Understand the techniques criminals use to deceive seniors
  • Discover what you can do to protect yourself
Seminar Speakers:
  • Attorney Charles Gilbert Fergus, Senior Consumer Counsel, Consumer Protections Division, Office of the Illinois Attorney General
  • Attorney Clarissa Palermo, Assistant State's Attorney, Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Unit, Cook County State's Attorney's Office

The seminar will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Richard J. Daley Center, 50 West Washington Street, Chicago, Illinois, in Courtroom 2005, on the 20th Floor.

City of Chicago Coordinates Yard Waste Pick-Up to Help Collect Fall Leaves and Debris
As part of the citywide effort to clean up leaves before winter, the Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) is coordinating dedicated bagged leaf and other yard waste collection trucks this fall to assist residents in clearing their yards, parkways, and storm drains of leaf debris.

Residents can call 311 to request separate bagged leaf collection from October 17 through November 30. Leaves and other yard waste should be left in the alley or at the curb (wherever your garbage pickup is) for collection, and bagged separately from garbage in the black carts and separately from recycling in the blue carts. A DSS truck will collect the bags based on 311 requests and take it to be composted.

DSS will continue street sweeping throughout the fall to capture leaf debris in city streets and help prevent draining issues during the winter. Residents are also encouraged to clear curb lanes and areas around storm drains in order to prevent the sewers from becoming clogged.
