New multi-school admissions events

The U-M Tauber Institute, Harvard MS/MBA Program, Kellogg School of Management, and MIT Leaders for Global Operations will present joint information sessions in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco this August to help prospective students find the right fit.  If you know someone considering graduate studies that bring business and engineering together, suggest they attend a multi-school event!  Representatives from each school will describe the unique aspects of their program, and alumni panels will share their experiences and answer questions.

Goodson makes RPA accessible

Tauber Executive in Residence Gene Goodson spoke with the Michigan Business Network about the benefits of using his Rapid Plant Assessment process to quickly evaluate Lean. Through his teaching, journal articles, workshops, and now his new book, Goodson is a champion of lean transformation throughout industry.
Dr. Goodson applied data accumulated from over 1,000 plant tours to create Rate Lean: Fast, published by the Tauber Institute. The workbook describes how to plan a tour, rate an operation, and envision an ideal lean plant based on Toyota Production System concepts.

Tauber solutions:
Pfizer informatics strategy

The Challenge:   Deliver significant improvements in the informatics space by leveraging recent developments in both the manufacturing and technology fields. By combining two new technologies at Pfizer, shorten development timelines and get medicines to patients faster.

The Solution:  The 2016 Tauber Pfizer team developed visualizations for both new technologies and used them to create a real-time operations dashboard to help managers to make faster and more effective decisions. Benefits from the visualizations include a reduction in time needed to gather information from weeks to minutes, and increased process understanding, helping to limit development runs. Cutting one development run could save over $800,000 in active pharmaceutical ingredient costs alone, and free equipment for other purposes. In the end, however, the real benefit is to patients who receive treatments that Pfizer will be able to develop faster and more effectively.
Spare parts: how many is too many?

A manager struggles with issues of storage space and her spare parts budget. Just how many spare parts should she keep on hand?  Project advisor Wally Hopp and other Tauber faculty have translated team project challenges into case studies that help both students and professionals develop the tools they need to solve real world problems.
