Wow! What an exciting time it's been at Ceres. The recent CNN story on our work generated interest and queries from across the country. For instance, what we've created together here in Northern California inspired a college student from Connecticut to reach out to us.

When she learned that there was no Ceres Affiliate near her campus, she pulled together a group of friends to explore cooking healing meals together. They don't know how to cook yet, but they're motivated to learn! In every community, young people have the same desire as all of us do to feel connected and engaged. At Ceres, we foster hundreds of healing moments that touch thousands each day. I'm so grateful for the role you play in making this possible for our teens and clients.

Here are two actions you can take this week to sustain our life-changing and life-saving work:

1. Watch the CNN story and share it with your friends and family. 10 finalists will be announced next week. If I'm one of them, we'll let you know how you can vote to help us win a $100,000 award for Ceres.

2. Consider joining our monthly giving program, the Kale Club. This coming Monday, we've challenged ourselves to enroll 24 new members in 24 hours. Watch for my email Monday morning, sign up if you can, and invite your family and friends!

Thank you for joining with me to make our community healthier, one teen, one client, one healing meal at a time.

In Gratitude,

Cathryn Couch
Executive Director

What's high in Vitamin C, Iron and provides monthly, sustainable support that helps Ceres deliver healing meals and mentor teens? The Kale Club, of course!

On October 24th, we invite you to join during our first ever Kale Club Day! Kale Club is a convenient, customizable, easy way to show your support for Ceres by monthly recurring gifts that are automatically deducted from your account. Kale Club members' ongoing support can be counted on month in and month out to help us continue our work of empowering teens and delivering healing meals to families in need.

During 24 hours, our goal is to include 24 new Kale Club members whose recurring monthly gifts make the healing work of Ceres possible.

Throughout the day, we'll be posting special Kale facts and photos, so follow us to take part. On October 24th will get a packet of Kale Seeds, cultivated from our garden and a subscription to our monthly member newsletter, filled with healing recipes from our kitchens.

Check your inbox Monday morning and be the first to join the club and help us meet our goal!

Our New Garden Friends

We have some new residents at Ceres Community Garden! Meet Fiona (grey hen), Colina (our orange hen, named for the Ceres Teen who advocated for chickens), Twinkle (black hen), Tigressa (black and white hen), and Rosa (red and white hen).

Thanks to volunteers Anne Marie and Glen for building our feathered friends a mobile coop! Chickens offer natural pest control, pollination and fertilizer-- not to mention fresh eggs! For Ceres Chicken updates, garden program news and more, follow us on social media.

by Thais Harris, NC
Nutrition Education Manager, Ceres Community Project

One of the main issues with our food system today is that there are too many added sugars in processed foods and drinks. Do you know just how much sugar is in the prepared foods you consume?

Inaugural GutBuster Charity Event- Healdsburg
6:00 - 7:00 pm

Join the non-profit Climbing Over Cancer and Co-Host Healdsburg Firefighters Association Saturday morning November 5, 2016 for a family fun run/walk in beautiful Healdsburg, California. The event will start and finish near the downtown Healdsburg Plaza. The purpose of the GutBuster is to fight stomach cancer through awareness, research, and uniting the caring power of people and food.

The driving force behind this effort is Healdsburg resident Allen Losh, son, husband, father, brother, veteran, firefighter, and friend to many, who lost his life to stomach cancer at the young age of 30.

Benefits from the event will go to Ceres and to No Stomach for Cancer, who provided Allen with caring meals and warm support during his battle with stomach cancer.
