Help NAMI San Fernando Valley Bring NAMI Homefront to LA! 
Starting Tuesday October 18 through Tuesday October 25, 2016 people can vote to help fund NAMI's signature program NAMI Homefront in the Los Angeles County. NAMI San Fernando Valley has submitted a $100,000 proposal as part of the MY LA2050 grant challenge that could make Los Angeles a great place to LIVE. We ask that you vote for their proposal and that you share this information with your friends, members, and colleagues. 

NAMI Homefront is an in-person group experience that provides the opportunity for mutual support and shared positive impact. People will experience compassion and reinforcement from people who relate to their experiences. Through their participation, they have the opportunity to help others grow and make LA a great place to LIVE!

1.  Visit project page at: bit.ly/NAMIHomeFront 

2.  Click "Vote for this idea" to vote for their proposal!

3.  Log in on to the My LA2050 voting site. If you don't have an account, it's free to join.  You can use social sign-in via Twitter or Facebook or your email address.

4.  If you use an email address, you will be emailed a link that you need to click in order to verify your address.

5.  Once you've voted, you'll get a notification at the top of the screen and an email verifying that your vote has been counted.

Council on Mental Ill Offenders (COMIO) Meeting Nov 2nd!

COMIO Overview: 
Since 2001, California, through the Council on Mentally Ill Offenders (COMIO), has recognized that individuals living with mental illness are at risk of becoming criminally involved without access to support and needed services. COMIO is a 12 member council chaired by the Secretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and is composed of key state departments and appointed expert representatives from criminal justice and mental health. Together the Council's purpose is to investigate, identify, and promote cost-effective strategies that: Prevent adults and juveniles with mental health needs from becoming offenders; Improve services for adults and juveniles with mental health needs who have a history of offending; and Identify incentives to encourage state and local criminal justice, juvenile justice, and mental health programs to adopt such approaches.

  • Receive an update from the Stepping Up Initiative

Nominations for NAMI California Board of Directors

 
NAMI California is accepting nominations for our Board of Directors. Board candidates will be voted on by members at the Annual Conference and serve three-year terms. We are seeking qualified candidates who have experience as an individual or family member living with mental illness, knowledge of mental health policy, insight into nonprofit organizational structure, and/or legal, financial or fundraising experience. Board candidates must share a commitment to help all those affected by mental illness and a passion for NAMI California's mission. Please complete and return this form by May 20, 2016

  Reporting NAMI Education Program Data
 
Reporting the data collected from classes, support groups and trainings to the NAMI Data Collection Site is extremely important. Reporting helps NAMI California provide more data to obtain funding so that we can provide trainings for NAMI's Signature Programs. 

We understand that navigating the reporting site can be challenging, but we are here to help if any assistance is needed with navigating the Data Collection Site. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact NAMI California at (916) 567-0163.

Provider Education Webinar Orientation on 11.1.16

Please join NAMI National for their upcoming orientation webinar  explaining the new 4-hour seminar option for the NAMI Provider Education Program on Tuesday, November 1st.
 
Who can attend
This orientation is only open to certified teachers and state trainers for the NAMI Provider Education. People who are not certified teachers or trainers are not eligible to participate in the orientation webinar.
 
What attendees need
Participants in the orientation webinar must have their own copy of the new teacher manual for the seminar so that they can take notes during the webinar. Program Directors must contact Teri Brister ([email protected]) and request a PDF of the manual for printing. The manual is not available on the extranet or in the NAMI Store.

Fall Advocacy and Collaboration Conference

Come join the California Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, NAMI California, and  United Advocates for Children and Families. We are coming together to discuss ideas for next year's legislative cycle and award CAL-ACAP Children's Hero Award winners for their exhaustive advocacy efforts benefiting children and families in California. We invite you to participate in this opportunity to learn about current California Legislative issues and a chance to create relationships with members from other participating organizations.

NAMI California Advocacy Network (CAN!) Webinar & Call

NAMI California Advocacy Network (CAN!) will resume on  Thursday, October 27th . This call will feature a webinar to make it easier to follow along. 

These conference calls are meant to provide affiliates with updates about NAMI California's legislative positions and activities; promote discussion among affiliates about legislation and local advocacy issues. 

For this month's call, we will recap California legislation, connect with affiliates and share next steps regarding advocacy. We will focus on bills NAMI California tracked during this past legislative session and would like to share updates with our members.

NAMI 360 Online Training Registration

The NAMI 360 training course is available as an online, self-paced training. Approved trainees may take the training at their own pace and at a time that works for them. 

Once you register, we will ask your Board President or Executive Director to approve your access to the data and then you will receive the link to continue with the training. You will not be able to take the training until you are approved.
