Studio Fitness Adopts the Treadmill
Studio Fitness is all the rage right now; between SoulCycle, Barre, CrossFit and others, fitness gurus love the opportunity to add variety to their workouts. But, do runners ever feel, well, jipped?

It may be difficult to incorporate running into a class that remains in a studio, but Kristin Shane accepted the challenge -- as a marathoner herself, she wanted to give the millions of runners a class option that was specifically tailored to their sport.
"Running is the biggest contingent, but no one in group fitness is addressing this contingent," she said.

So, she  left her job as a vice president-level Target merchant in February to launch Fly Feet Running , a studio that offers high intensity treadmill workouts.

Fly Feet will open Nov. 1 in downtown Minneapolis, and while it may be difficult for Chicagoans to try it now, Shane hopes to open more locations in the future.

Northshore's Oldest Running Store to Celebrate 24th Year in New Location
The Runner's Edge in Wilmette has been a successful family-owned running store since 1992, and to celebrate its history, the 24-year-old company is moving to one of the oldest shopping centers in the United States.

At the end of October, consumers can find all of their favorite running and biking necessities at the new Wilmette location of The Runner's Edge in Plazo Del Lago, located at 1515 Sheridan Road. A grand opening weekend will take place in the new store in early November, with raffle prize giveaways and various running activities.

"It's an exciting move for us to a great, well know location in the Northshore where many of our customers already run and bike by all year long," Bob Klein, who owns The Runner's Edge with his partner Nancy Schultz, says in a press release. "Plus, we have Higher Gear Bike shop in the center that allows their customers and our customers the chance to make one stop for running, swimming, cycling and multi-sport gear."

The Runner's Edge can also be found in Libertyville and Chicago.

Which U.S. Cities Are Best For Marathon Training?
Even if the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is on our rearview mirrors, it doesn't mean marathon training has to stop. In fact, Chicago was ranked the ninth best city in the United States for marathon training, so let's celebrate with a run!

To come up with the list, Redfin looked at each city's Walk Score (a measurement of how easy it is to get around without a car), number of parks per square mile, average daily temperature and amount of sunlight for each city.

Here are the top 20 cities for marathon training and some of their scores:

CARA Director Says 'Goodbye' With Heavy Heart
Two years ago, a then technology and business buff took a chance by accepting the position of Executive Director at the Chicago Area Runners Association, and at the end of the month, his life will make another 180-degree change.

On Oct. 6, Ed Zylka sent out an email to all CARA members announcing he will be stepping down as director at the end of October. In the email, he explains that he and his wife decided to move to Vermont to be closer to their family and to experience a different lifestyle.

"I wasn't an easy decision, and it didn't come at a particular time ... but it's not often in life you get these opportunities to make a 180-degree change," Zylka says.

Although he is excited to begin the next chapter of his life, Zylka definitely leaves CARA with a heavy heart. In the last two years, Zylka is proud of his work in the running community, the team he has built within CARA and the friendships he has made with members along the way.

Read about all of Zylka's bittersweet feelings online!
