Dear Covenant friends and family,
When my girls were little we used to talk about having the "gimmes."  It was if some tumultuous spirit had overtaken them (or us), and there was this compulsion to have more, to go shopping, to acquire.  Sometimes we would talk our way through it; sometimes we would distract ourselves; sometimes we'd make a trip to the dollar store where at least we wouldn't do too much damage to the family budget.  Ideally -- which means occasionally and by the grace of God -- we would be able to figure out what it was we really wanted, what we were really feeling -- so that we could then pay attention to that real need underneath all the grasping feelings.
More is generally presumed to be better in our culture, and this is so true, that I'm not sure that 21st century Americans can any longer even know when we have enough.  It's like our internal sensors for "full" or "satisfied" or "sufficient" are broken.
What is enough?  When do we have enough?  When have we done enough?  Are we ourselves ever enough?
This is what we will explore  this Sunday as the children lead us in worship.  Our children will help us to center ourselves in the Holy One, to remember the call Jesus gives our lives, to know ourselves rooted and grounded in the Love of the Holy Spirit.
One thing we know:  God will show up, and it will be enough.
Grace and peace,
Katie

Financial Opportunities:
(T., W., Th., 8:30am-4pm)

-IRA Distributions. If you are 70-1/2 years or older, have you thought about taking advantage of the IRA Charitable Rollover provision and making a pledge from your IRA? This provision allows you to make an outright gift of up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to a qualified charity (Covenant) without paying tax on the distribution. This is an excellent way to use your IRA dollars. One hundred percent of your gift goes to Covenant, and you pay zero percent tax on your distribution from your IRA. This is a permanent provision. Please consider this option as you decide on the source of your gifts to Covenant, should they be for the Capital Campaign, The Permanent Funds Ministry (endowment), or to fulfill your annual pledge to the Operating Fund.
- 2016 Per Capita is $32 Per Member. Each member of Covenant is also a member of the larger church, the Presbyterian Church USA. It is part of our responsibility to support the work of the administrative bodies of the national church - the General Assembly, the Synod, and the Presbytery - by making a per capita payment each January. This year, that is $32 per member, for a total payment due of $20,384. Please pay your share so that this money doesn't need to come from this year's budget. Your contribution will free up funds for other vital church programs that meet the spiritual needs of our congregation. Per Capita envelopes are available at the Welcome Table. - Your Stewardship & Budget Commission.
- Estate Planning. Consider naming Covenant as a beneficiary of your IRA and/or life insurance policy. Naming Covenant as a beneficiary provides you tax savings, along with the ability to make a meaningful gift without the outlay of cash. Life insurance policies may be an existing or new policy and be partially or fully paid. For both options, the proposed gift can be accomplished by naming Covenant as a complete (or partial) beneficiary. Contact your plan administrator to obtain the correct forms and your tax advisor for information specific to your individual situation.
