Conservation Groups Encourage Investment in Fish, Wildlife and Public Land Infrastructure
On October 18, CSF and a contingent of hunting and fishing conservation groups urged both major party presidential transition teams to consider infrastructure investments that would significantly strengthen the outdoor economy and increase access to public lands. CSF Attends Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Conference
On October 16-19, Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) Southeastern States Director Bee Frederick attended the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Annual Conference in Baton Rouge, LA. Joining state agency personnel, academics, and NGO stakeholders from across the region, CSF staff participated in various sessions, including state restrictions of hunting and fishing opportunities by non-residents, access to public waters, chronic wasting disease, feral swine management, angler and hunter participation insights, and many others. The annual conference provides a forum for information and idea exchange regarding the management and conservation of fish and wildlife resources through focused discussion of scientific research and various relevant issues and trends. CSF is currently accepting applications for an Event Manager who will work in the Washington, DC office. Reporting to the Senior Director of Events and Donor Relations, the Event Manager will coordinate and manage several events throughout the year. The ideal candidate will have experience planning events, and be willing to work in a fast-paced, team environment. This is a mid-level, full-time salaried position with upward mobility potential.
CSF is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2016 Brad Rowse Fellow Internship Program. Brad Rowse Fellows at the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) will have the opportunity to learn the importance of the policy process related to hunting, angling, recreational shooting, trapping, and other conservation issues impacting sportsmen and women. This is a paid internship with a stipend of up to $1000 a month, and academic credit is strongly supported.
CSF to Host Feral Hog Management Discussion and Hunt in Georgia
On November 2 - 4, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) will host a Feral Hog Management Discussion and Hunt in Milledgeville, Georgia. Classified as a nuisance species in Georgia and not native to the Americas, feral hogs cause significant damage to our natural resources, and State and Federal agencies have struggled with cost-effective management techniques that impede the spread and/or aid in the removal of these animals. Following a forum discussion on research that shows various management approaches as well as the growing negative impacts feral hogs can have, participants will receive special night vision training from some of America's Elite Naval Special Forces, after which, they will have the option to participate in a nighttime feral hog hunt with suppressor firearms. Registration is now open for the 13th Annual National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) Sportsman-Legislator Summit. The Summit provides an opportunity for caucus members and partners to collaborate and devise year-long strategies to advance sportsmen's interests in state legislatures. This year, discussion topics include: lead ammunition bans, strategies for promoting the value of hunting and angling to the public, and key fisheries issues, among others. In addition, attendees will discuss the wide range of challenges currently facing America's sportsmen and women, along with the strategies necessary to overcome those challenges to protect and advance America's outdoor heritage, traditions, and sportsmen-generated conservation dollars in the years to come.
