THIS SUNDAY:
Life in the Flow - Giving as a Spiritual Practice
Sunday, October 23, 9 a.m., South Parish Hall
In the Gospels, Jesus talked about money more than prayer, more than worship, and more than even love! Henri Nouwen said that when rooted in relatedness    and motivated by the Spirit of God, giving can be as  much a spiritual practice as preaching a sermon, entering a time of prayer, visiting the sick, or feeding the hungry.  Join Rev. Chris Harris as we have some fun exploring the role that spiritual practices play in our relationship with God, and how we can apply these same principles to our giving in a way that can be both liberating and life-giving.
UPCOMING FORUMS:
Putting the Hallow Back in Halloween
Devils and Demons in the 21st Century
Sunday, October 30, 9 a.m., South Parish Hall

On October 31 (the 499th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation this year), our so-called "Christian Nation" will temporarily descend into a fun celebration of all things ghoulish and grotesque. C.S. Lewis once wrote: "There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors, and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight."

So, what are we to make of the devil and demons in scripture? Can we explain them away using modern science and psychiatry? How should such matters figure in our understanding of Scripture (especially the Gospels), and our theology today? Join us for an info-taining forum on this timely topic on the Eve of Halloween.
