CAMPACSupport CAM's Political Action Committee (PAC)
CAM Government Affairs Header
Dear CAM Member:

We write today to ask you to consider supporting CAM's Political Action Committee (PAC). CAM's Government Affairs Committee (GAC) has been extremely effective since its formation in recent years in advocating on behalf of its members and the good of the construction industry as a whole in our state.

In 2015 alone, CAM publicly supported a massive transportation funding overhaul that will generate over $1 billion to infrastructure funding in Michigan in future years. This legislation will spur economic growth in our communities and streamline efficiencies in our day-to-day business operations.

Our GAC was also successful in its efforts to secure more funding for the skilled trades. The CAM leadership has testified numerous times in the Michigan Legislature on the need for a trained workforce leading to an additional $10 million to the Skilled Trades Training Fund in 2015 and more funding in 2016 and 2017. These funds will assist in training the new workforce for years to come!

And while we've been successful in opposing the repeal of Michigan's Prevailing Wage Act and were able to keep construction project information from local governments free and accessible, these battles continue and the CAM PAC needs your help.

Going forward through 2016 and thereafter, the CAM GAC will continue to advance performance/prompt pay legislation and the many CAM workforce development initiatives already up and running, not to mention, closely monitor other important issues potentially impacting the CAM membership, including but not limited to, state energy legislation/policies and Detroit Public School System reform.

Additionally, this upcoming fall, the CAM GAC is preparing to host both another roundtable event, this time on the subject of collaboration in the industry, and a legislative breakfast symposium strategically planned during the homestretch of the 2016 election year with several local Michigan legislators in attendance to address the top concerns of the CAM membership. Again, both events are scheduled for this upcoming fall. STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS!

By contributing to the CAM PAC you help to make your voice heard in the Michigan Legislature and insure that the needs of the construction industry are heard!

We want to thank you for your continued support of CAM and ask that you consider a contribution of $100, $250 or $500 to the CAM PAC today. Your personal checks can be made out to "CAM PAC" and mailed to CAM at 43636 Woodward Ave, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Kevin Koehler, President, Construction Association of Michigan

John Raimondo, Roncelli, Inc., Chairman, CAM Government Affairs Committee
FAQFAQ: What is the CAM PAC?

The Construction Association of Michigan - Political Action Committee (CAM PAC) is a non-partisan political action tool of the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) whose purpose is to provide financial support to legislators who support the construction industry. The CAM PAC, in conjunction with CAM, promotes candidates and issues that will positively impact the construction industry.

How the CAM PAC Works For You:

Every day, lawmakers make decisions to raise or lower your taxes, enact or repeal unreasonable regulations, and influence your business costs. The CAM PAC is committed to electing lawmakers who best represent the interests of the construction industry. By electing lawmakers who are supportive of our industry, we can be assured that CAM will have maximum influence in shaping policy issues in our state. In other words, CAM PAC is simply the best way you can protect your business interests. CAM PAC is the premier grassroots and issues-mobilizing force that exists to protect and promote the construction industry.

Who Can Contribute to the CAM PAC?

The CAM PAC can accept voluntary contributions from members and staff of CAM, including family members, and members and staff of affiliated organizations. The CAM PAC can accept personal checks or contributions from businesses organized as sole-proprietorships, partnerships, or LLCs (Limited Liability Corporations). However, the CAM PAC is prohibited by state and federal law from accepting corporate contributions.

Can I Write a Corporate Check?

Yes! The CAM has its CAM Advocacy Fund, which can accept corporate checks. Although the CAM Advocacy Fund is limited in its uses; it too will be used to help promote the industry through political education. Please send your check to the Construction Association of Michigan and write "Advocacy Fund" in the memo portion of the check. Also, contributions to the CAM Advocacy Fund can be made via credit card payment.

How Much Should I Contribute?

The amount of any contribution to the CAM PAC or the CAM Advocacy Fund is your choice. Both tools are funded completely through voluntary contributions. No one is required to participate and there is no minimum contribution, unless part of a fundraising event. However, just imagine how influential the construction industry could be if the CAM PAC and/or CAM Advocacy Fund had $500 from every company or $100 from every company employee in the state each year!

Please feel free to contact CAM with any questions. As always, thank you for being a member and for your support of the industry!

pizzapizzaLittle Caesars Reveals Updated, First of its Kind, Design of Expanded World Headquarters

Little Caesars and Olympia Development of Michigan have reached several major milestones as part of the development of the new and expanded Little Caesars world headquarters campus. The iconic Detroit-born business has updated the design of the new building after extensive collaboration with its colleagues and franchisees. The nine-story, 234,000-square-foot Little Caesars Global Resource Center, at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Columbia Street in The District Detroit, will feature a first-of-its-kind façade and more than double the size of the current Little Caesars campus in Detroit to accommodate the company's rapid global growth and hiring.

The Little Caesars Global Resource Center, the cornerstone of The District Detroit's Columbia Street neighborhood, is Detroit's first newly constructed corporate headquarters building in more than a decade and only the seventh since 1950. Construction of the new Little Caesars Global Resource Center will be another boost to Detroit's impressive comeback story when construction begins this summer upon the approval of permits currently being reviewed by the city of Detroit.

The Little Caesars Global Resource Center will have an impressive formed-glass exterior. Each 14-foot tall, pizza slice shape of formed-glass pays homage to the company's signature product. The distinct shape of glass, in combination with the height of each formed-glass unit, makes the building façade the first of its kind in the world. The innovative building design matches the company's personality, which has long been regarded as an industry innovator.

Updated renderings show how the building's unique design provides more natural light, more collaboration spaces and great views of the city. Research and development space will triple current facilities and include a state-of-the-art test kitchen and space for sensory panels and quality assurance operations.

Olympia Development of Michigan has selected Brinker-Christman, a Detroit-based joint venture between Detroit-based Brinker Group LLC and Lansing-based The Christman Co. as the construction manager on the Global Resource Center project. Detroit-based SmithGroupJJR is the architect of record.

"The Little Caesars Global Resource Center is an important anchor for The District Detroit and will appeal to national and local retailers who want proximity to a global brand with Detroit roots," said Steve Marquardt, Vice President of Olympia Development of Michigan, developer for the Little Caesars Global Resource Center and The District Detroit. "The selection of a Detroit-based construction manager, as well as a Detroit-based architect, further demonstrates our commitment to a Michigan Made, Detroit Built development and reflects the opportunities we continue to create for local and regional contractors and companies."

Additional innovative features of the Little Caesars Global Resource Center will include:
  • Work café, pantries, collaborative workspaces and informal meeting rooms
  • Two-story lobby connected to a new Welcome Center
  • Glass-covered, open air terrace
  • Screening room and 425-seat training room
  • Fitness center
  • Retail and dining
In its ongoing work on the new Little Caesars Arena and its surrounding retail and office space, Olympia Development of Michigan has awarded more than $300 million, nearly 60 percent of total contracts awarded so far, to Detroit-based businesses. Detroit residents have logged more than 140,000 work hours on site, and there are more than 40 Detroit resident apprentices working currently. Nearly $500 million, or more than 90 percent, of contracts have been awarded to Michigan-based companies.

The expanded Little Caesars world headquarters campus will have workspace to allow for up to 700 high-skilled jobs to be brought to the city. The Little Caesars Global Resource Center will provide world-class training, innovation and workspace to accommodate thousands of employees, franchisees, and suppliers that visit the Detroit headquarters campus from around the globe each year. The Little Caesars Global Resource Center will support employees and franchisees with a combination of state-of-the-art, employee-focused design and the latest technology.
