Get Emergency Notifications by Text
In preparation for the colder months ahead, we have updated our "One Call Now" Emergency Notification System.  In the event our school schedule is adjusted due to weather, a phone call and an email will be sent to the contact information we have on file.

Quick Links

A text option is also available.  If you opted-in to receive text messages last school year, you do not need to do anything additional.  If you did not receive text messages last year and would like to or you are new to our school, you must "opt-in" to receive text notification.

To do so, text the word  ALERT to the number 22300.  Do not include any words other than the word ALERT.

After doing so, you will no longer receive a phone call at that number and will only receive a text message.

If you do not want to receive text notification, you do not have to do anything.  Your phone number and email address from our MMS system have automatically been entered into the One Call Now system.
Science Fair Informational Meeting
An informational meeting will be held Monday, October 17, immediately after school in Room 123 for students who are either required to participate or those who are interested in participating voluntarily in the Science Fair. Please advise your teacher if you are unable to attend.

Senior High
This year, S cientific Research Methods and Writing students are required to complete a Science Fair project.  Any other senior high science student who has previously completed a project is not required to design a project for the current school year, but may choose to participate. Alternate assignments may be used by teachers in place of a Science Fair project for those students who have not completed one previously.

Junior High
A requirement of the 8th grade science curriculum is the completion of the Design and Conduct an Experiment Project. Specific instructions for this project will be presented in class. Interested 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged, but not required, to participate in YC's Science Fair.  An excellent resource can be found on Miss Sudol's website - Science Fair  or on the Forms & Documents page of the YC website .

Wednesday Special Schedule
Retreat Grade 9
Our 9th Grade students will be on Retreat on Wednesday, October 19, at GAiN (Global Aid Network) Logistics Center in Mt. Joy, PA.  This will be a Service retreat as we work alongside other Christians to serve the global poor.  We will be praying a Rosary in the midst of our service and we will be eating a very basic lunch as a reminder of all those who must live in poverty every day.  We pray that this retreat day will strengthen the students' personal relationship with our Lord by serving those in need around the world.  GAiN began its mission following the collapse of the Soviet Union, but is now shipping much needed goods and seeds to Africa and South America.  For more information on this group, please visit http://www.gainusa.org .  These retreat hours do not count toward Service Hour requirements.

PSAT Testing
Eleventh graders will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 19.  For best results, students should have a good night's rest and eat a good breakfast on testing day.  Students need to come prepared with #2 pencils as a well as a graphic or scientific calculator.  The PSAT tests students on Reading, Writing, and Math, and is an invaluable practice test preceding the SAT.  Practice test manuals were distributed in homeroom three weeks prior to the exam, and sophomores and juniors are encouraged to take time to become familiar with the test format.  Any questions regarding the test or scoring may be directed to Mrs. Eva Hess in the guidance office at 717-846-8871 x19 or [email protected].

Seniors Special Morning
Seniors should report to school on Wednesday, October 19, at 10 AM.  Upon arrival, seniors should report directly to the auditorium instead of homeroom.  Seniors will be measured for their graduation cap and gown and gather for their senior class picture.  Seniors will start classes with 5th period at 11:29 AM.
Mission Collection:  Misericordia
Our Wednesday Mission Collection will occur on Tuesday next week due to the 9th Grade Retreat and the PSAT Exams.  Tuesday's collection will benefit Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in York. (Misericordia means "heart of mercy" in Latin.)  The original nursing home opened on Roosevelt Avenue in 1943, and moved to its present location which is adjacent to the K-mart on Haines Road  in 1965.  The Sisters and staff provide care for the sick and elderly.

Members of our choir visit and sing for the residents each year, and many of our students do service work there throughout the year.  We can help by being generous to the Sisters who have operated this center for over 50 years.  They have been especially grateful for our past donations, and they keep us in their daily prayers.
YC Artists on Display

Some of our YC students are showing their artistic creations at the York Community Art Scholars Exhibition Art Walk October 19-22 from 5-8 PM. There are 6 stops along the Walk with artwork being displayed by 9 different high schools.  Our students' art will be on display at Marketview Arts Coni Wolf Gallery, 37 West Philadelphia St., in York.  A reception will be held October 20 from 5-8 PM. Everyone is invited to attend and support our talented artists.  Click here for locations and participating schools.
Athletic Association Meeting
The next YC Athletic Association Meeting is Wednesday, October 19, at 6:30 PM in the Faculty Dining Room.  All are welcome to attend! We hope to see you there!

In Case You Missed It...
York Catholic students participated in group service project at Leg Up Farm in Manchester this past weekend.  Leg up Farm is a non-profit therapy center for children with special needs. Horses are used in some of the therapy and our job was to "house clean" their stalls. The students worked hard and had fun while supporting a worthwhile cause.  #YCHeart
