2 New Fact Sheets Explain Importance of Analysis in Creating Safer Workplaces  
OSHA has released two fact sheets that stress the importance of tracking metrics and investigating potential hazards to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities. The Use of Metrics in Process Safety Management Facilities provides employers with a list metrics, or measurements, tracked by facilities in OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs that handle highly hazardous chemicals. OSHA and the Environmental Protection Agency collaborated on The Importance of Root Cause Analysis During Incident Investigation, which urges employers to investigate incidents that nearly led to a worker injury and find ways to prevent similar incidents. MSHA Goal: ZERO Fatalities in October
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has issued a Deadly October Seasonal Safety Alert due to an average of more than three fatal accidents each October since 1998. Last October was the only October since 1998 that the industry didn't lose a miner. Statistics show that from 1998 through 2015, sixty-one miners died at metal and nonmetal operations in the month of October.  More...
Fire Prevention Week October 9-15, 2016
As the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is promoting this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, "Don't Wait - Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years," to better educate the public about the critical importance of knowing how old their smoke alarms are and replacing them once they're 10 years old.
