Dear Saint Rose Families,

Thank you for your generosity and support of Dr. Paat and his medical mission to Haiti.  Dr. Paat left this morning with an additional $930.00 from the students and families of Saint Rose School.  Your funds will be earmarked for the students of the local parish school in Haiti.  Many of the families are without their homes.  Thank you for your generosity.

This month our students will focus on the Act of Mercy of educating the ignorant.  Our collections will be dedicated to the Jesuit Refugee Service.  JRS supports refugees throughout the world, in 51 countries.  Establishing schools for refugee children is one of the major works of JRS.  Many refugees find themselves in camps for years and even decades.   Continuing their education, particularly the education of their children, is an essential component of camp life.  Thank you for supporting our collection.  More information can be found at jrsusa.org

On Monday both our 7th grade and 8th grade students have an opportunity to attend their annual class trips. The 7th graders will travel for an overnight trip to Cleveland, where they will tour various museums, the aquarium and spend the night at the Great Lakes Science Center. The 8th grade will travel to Washington D.C. for an exciting tour of our nation's capital, government, and historical and cultural sites.  Please pray for the safety and success of our students and chaperones for these trips.  The 7th grade will be gone Monday and Tuesday. The 8th grade trip is Monday through Thursday

Tomorrow is the end of the quarter. It is amazing how quickly the time has gone.  I hope that your son(s) or daughter(s) are enjoying their experience at Saint Rose and are growing in their faith, formation, and education.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bryon Borgelt
Principal

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR NEW WEBSITE?!

Many of you may have noticed that our parish and school launched a new website this past week.  We hope that you enjoy our new look! More importantly, we hope that our new site provides more information and tools for you.  There are still some improvements and tweaks that need to be made, but we are very happy with the outcome of this process.  It involved two years of work from many people, representing the parish and the school.  A special appreciation is extended to Jennifer Mott for her photography that graces our new site.  Madhouse Creative in Toledo built our site and supported us through this process.
Thank you for your patience.
We hope that you have a chance to use this revamped resource.

3rd Grade Field Trip

The third graders recently studied energy and natural resources.  To coincide with their learning, they were able to visit the wind turbines, the landfill and the recycling center in Wood County.  During their visits, they were able to go inside the wind turbine and see how big it is up close and personal.  They also had the chance to see where their garbage goes and how a landfill works.  Finally they visited the recycling center.  They learned about how the things we recycle get sorted, bundled together, and then shipped off to get recycled into other items.

We would like to encourage each student to donate at the weekly Masses as he/she is able.  Perhaps a quarter, fifty cents, or a dollar a week from allowance, gift money, or chores.  This practice helps to reinforce a precept of the Catholic Church :   The faithful also have the duty of providing for the material needs of the Church, each according to his abilities.      CCC 2043

Notre Dame Academy Students Commissioned Eucharist Ministers
~The Eucharist is essential for us: it is Christ who wishes to enter our lives and fill us with his grace. ~  Pope Francis

Toledo, Ohio (October 7, 2016) Over 30 Notre Dame Academy students were commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers during an all-school Mass.  Students prepared with study and prayer for the commissioning along with receiving a recommendation from their parish priest.

"I love having all school Masses at NDA because I believe that celebrating Mass together is an important part of growing in our faith as a school," said Ms. Alyssa Sherman. Reverend Adam Hertzfeld of St. Joan of Arc Parish said, "It was an honor to recommend that Ms. Sherman be accepted as a candidate."

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, "The Eucharist is a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Father, a blessing by which the Church expresses her gratitude to God for all his benefits, for all that he has accomplished through creation, redemption and sanctification" (CCC 1360).
