THANK YOU Good Neighbors!

Francis House Center's Program Manager Juan Gonzales shows some of the Good Neighbor Bags that were gathered and donated by the Joyful Living and Giving organization at a presentation by Goodwill Industries at Foothills United Methodist Church.

The event was coordinated by Diane Kissinger and featured food and live music by Amy Van den Boom.

These bags may be small but they pack a big punch, giving our clients a refillable water bottle and assorted snacks for nourishment.
Job & Career Development

Josh Wickland is the newest addition to Francis House Center. He is extremely excited to tackle the task of managing the Job Development Center and coaching our clients to become job ready.

Francis House has a long history of offering a helping hand to the members of our community who have encountered hardship in their lives. Assisting them in achieving self-sufficiency through gainful employment and career advancement is the best way to help our clients help themselves. Our goal is to transform our Job Development Center into a Career Development Program, a place where our clients can take advantage of workshops, research resources, and one-on-one coaching to help them attain their individual employment goals.

A 'Center' is just a place; a 'Program' is an educational environment that provides clients with tools that they can take with them wherever life (or a career) may take them.
Next Move Program Profile ~ Casa de Esperanza

The soft blue eyes and defined lines of Rickey Martin's face reveal a life lived the hard way and a heart open and tempered through experience.
In his 69 years, Rickey has held many jobs and lived in different places from Seattle to Washington, D.C. He is no stranger to hard work and likes to feel productive, but through circumstance found himself homeless for four years before finding Casa de Esperanza, a supportive housing program of Next Move. He landed in Sacramento because he liked the city and the warm weather was a plus when living on the street or camping on the river.

Rickey wanted to find a stable home and with the help of a Sacramento Steps Forward Navigator found his way to Casa de Esperanza. Program Case Manager Charlotte Tate said he arrived with just a knapsack on his back. She helped him get an increase in his disability benefits which he didn't realize he was entitled to and she helped him get settled into an apartment of his own. Next Move provided new furniture and some supplies to get him started in his new home and he has been thriving there for a year.

"I'm so grateful! If you don't search, you won't find it. It's not going to work unless you work it, "said Rickey of his effort to change his situation. "I have a life again. I have a spiritual life and believe in something greater than myself. I have peace of mind because I have a home" he added.

The Casa de Esperanza program of Next Move provides permanent supportive housing to individuals with disabilities who are chronically homeless, meaning they have spent more than 12 months of the past two years living outdoors, and are challenged by permanent physical disabilities and often mental illness.  A majority of the 18 current residents are senior citizens who would otherwise not have a suitable place to sleep for the night if not for this critical program.
On-site tour with Pastor Rick Cole

In 2014, Pastor Rick Cole from the
Capital Christian Center spent two weeks living on the streets to find out what it's like to experience homelessness and to raise funds for the Winter Shelter Program. Pastor Cole raised almost $150,000 to benefit the homeless and said the experience changed him personally.

While living on the streets Pastor Cole heard about Francis House Center, a program of Next Move. He recently came by for a tour with a large group of alumni students from Capital Christian Center to learn more about our program and how they can help support our work to serve the homeless population in Sacramento. Thank you Pastor Rick Cole and Capital Christian Center for all you do to help the homeless!
