Please send all photos by Friday, October 28. All hard copy photos will be returned. Pictures submitted in previous years do not need to be resubmitted as we have kept electronic copies of them. Boxtops for Education
Once again we're collecting Boxtops for Education this year at Heritage. Please turn in all box tops you've collected over the summer and throughout September and October by Monday, October 31! Each month the classes have a little competition for collecting box tops. The winner receives a small prize. At the end of the year, the winning class gets a bigger prize (ice cream party!) In the past few years we've collected anywhere from $1700-$2300 through this program so it's an easy way to earn money for our school. If you have questions regarding the program, feel free to contact Deb Horning, our boxtop coordinator.
Smile! Picture Days are next week
School picture days are next Wednesday for PreK through 3rd graders and Thursday for 4th through 8th graders. If you would like to order pictures, please return the form and payment with your student on those days.

Bring your lawn chairs and family to the Heritage H.A.N.D.S. bonfire at the school on Sunday, October 23 anytime from 4-5:30pm for s'mores and hot chocolate. This is a great time to meet new families and connect with old friends!
Heritage is searching for a PreK 3 Day Teacher's Aide
We are currently looking for a teacher's aide to work with Mrs. Rachel Super in our 3 day Pre-K classroom. A description of the position can be found on our website or by clicking here. If you or someone you know would be interested in this, please email Mike Annis at [email protected].

After School Care Program Full - Additional Supervisor Needed

Due to the current size of the After School Program, we are no longer able to enroll any more students. If you would like to be put on the waiting list, please contact the office. We are still searching for an additional supervisor for the program.  The time commitment would be from 3:15 to 5:30pm, five days a week. This position is a great opportunity to play with and supervise the children. For a complete description of the position, go to our website or click here. If you or someone you know (college age or above) would be interested, please email Mike Annis at [email protected].
As the weather cools down, it is time to start thinking about basketball season. This year we will be offering a 5/6th boys basketball team led by Head Coach Greg Lybeck and Assistant Coach Jeff Schweitzer, a 7/8th girls basketball team led by Head Coach Matt Traetow and Assistant Coach Greg Lybeck, a 7/8th boys basketball team led by Head Coach Jim Turnbough and Assistant Coach Lisa Turnbough, a 5/6th girls cheerleading squad, and a 7/8th girls cheerleading squad both led by Head Coach Nichole Early and Assistant Coach Mary Mysnyk. Once again we are blessed with a great group of coaches this year who are dedicated to helping your children grow as student-athletes. If your 5-8th grade student is interested in playing basketball or participating in cheerleading this fall, please e-mail Serah Snell at [email protected] by Friday, November 4th. All athletic forms and fees are due on Friday, November 4th.

7/8th Soccer Recap
If you've been around Heritage Christian School for any length of time you know the INCA-HCS rivalry is real. It may not be the Battle for the Boot or the Cy-Hawk Trophy but its every bit as intense at the middle school level as it is in upper divisions. The past three year record indicates just how close the soccer series is with Heritage holding a slim 4-1-3 series lead.

After losing back to back games to INCA (1-2 and 0-2) over the past two games to fall to 3-0-2 the Eagles needed a win or a tie to preserve their 4th consecutive winning season. Playing inspired, scrappy defense led by Cael Austin, Ethan Bailey and Mason Slaymaker on the back line; tremendous midfield support by Spencer Hollman; and outstanding goal keeping by Trey Montgomery (12 saves) the Eagles frustrated and thwarted every INCA attack. Offensively the Eagles had chances created by Adu Habte, Sam Young, Eli Young and Hunter Schau but ultimately couldn't get anything past an equally tough Patriot back line.

The Eagles end their season 3-1-2 and we thank our departing 8th graders for their leadership over the past several seasons. Our 8 th graders this season were Cael Austin, Ethan Bailey, Spencer Holman, Christopher Nair, Gianna Rocca, Mason Slaymaker, and Eli Young. Thank you parents, students, alumni and fans for making your way across eastern Iowa to support this great group of young men and women. We're excited for next year and await #WhatsNext

5/6th Volleyball Recap
The 5th/6th volleyball team played Lutheran Interparish on Thursday and were challenged to overcome quite a few obstacles throughout the match.  With the start of the first game came the realization that they were playing with a heavier ball, deeper serving line and higher net!  The girls persevered despite the physical and mental challenges that accompanied these surprises and learned to adjust the way they played to accommodate these changes.  They lost the first game to LIS, but showed much improvement in the second game which allowed them to maintain a lead throughout most of that game.  An unfortunate injury during the second game contributed to a loss of momentum, and the Eagles ended up losing the second game to LIS as well.  However, success is not determined by wins and losses, and the Eagles learned some valuable lessons in tonight's game, making it a success.  They saw firsthand that when we allow discouragement to overtake our minds, our playing ability goes down too!  The Eagles fought through this discouraging mind game, and due to great serving from all the players, they were able to win the third game!
