Jackson Primary Featured in National Publication

Jackson Primary School's maker space initiative is featured in a supplemental issue of the latest edition of " Principal," a national education magazine with 23,000 subscribers.

In the article, Jackson's maker space, Tinker Town, is highlighted among the schools that have integrated STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) opportunities and experiences for students.

Launched during the 2014-15 school year, Tinker Town began as an after-school program that provided a creative, hands-on opportunity for students that garnered the participation of 250 families.  Last year, the program made its move into the classroom, continuing to challenge students to think creatively and critically through STEAM.

Jackson is among those featured in the magazine's supplemental " Champion Creatively Alive Children " publication, sponsored by Crayola, which helped fund the school's Tinker Town project last school year through a grant, along with the  Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation .

"It was an exciting opportunity to be awarded this grant and working with the team here to prepare curriculum and instructional materials to meet the needs of STEAM," said Principal Kirk Felix.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, revenue totaled $208,323 through contributions, pledges and grants that helped benefit 5,100 students. In addition, the foundation granted a combined $703,466 in support of educational, cultural and athletic programs, and capital improvement projects.
