Greetings from Muskingum President Sue Hasseler *  October 2016

Welcome to Magenta Lines! I am excited to introduce this new email bulletin for Muskingum alumni and friends. I hope you will enjoy hearing regularly about how our students experience Muskingum, and how our  entire community carries out our commitment to educate the whole person for the whole world

Muskingum's 2016-17 Academic Year began with many energizing moments. Our incoming Class of 2020 arrived for their first move-in day, our returning students settled back in to campus, and everyone enjoyed Welcome Weekend activities together. We celebrated Opening Convocation with Kim Ronald Smith, Class of 1977, who encouraged and inspired our students: "Today, we acknowledge a new chapter in your story...embrace this time, identify your purpose in being here, and make it meaningful."

Our students are already taking that good advice to heart, as they connect with each other and with our community, and as our faculty and staff provide rich learning opportunities for them to find meaning and purpose.  Each day, I continue to be amazed by the dedication, creativity and accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students From the classrooms to the playing fields, from the stage and studio to the residence halls, from clubs and activities to experiential learning opportunities, our Muskies are honing their skills and knowledge, exploring their passions, expanding their horizons and making an impact on others around them.

Their school spirit and pride is evident every day on campus, as they enthusiastically support each other's initiatives, performances and athletic competitions. You can now join them in cheering on the Fighting Muskies through free high-definition live streaming on your computer, mobile device, or smart television. Visit www.fightingmuskies.com and click on a team schedule page to enjoy football, men's and women's soccer and basketball, men's wrestling, women's volleyball and more.

Meanwhile, our newest alumni are quickly making their mark on the world. We were exceptionally proud to learn that 100% of our 2016 pre-licensure Nursing graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) on their first attempt. Congratulations to these outstanding Muskies and to our dedicated Nursing program faculty for achieving this very special milestone!

Everyone in our community can be very proud of our recent national recognition by U.S. News and World Report's 2017 Best Colleges, as we received a fifth place ranking in the Best Values in Midwest Regional Universities category. Only institutions which meet strict criteria can be considered in this category, and this acknowledgement is a vivid demonstration of our pursuit of excellence in all that we do.

Since taking office on July 1, it has been a true delight for me to meet and spend time with members of our Muskingum community, and I so appreciate the warm welcome I have received! To view photo galleries from recent events, visit our new President in Action webpage.

I look forward to meeting many more alumni and friends in the months ahead, especially during Homecoming on October 28 and 29. Please Register and let us know you are coming.

My wish for everyone, which I shared as we concluded the Opening Convocation ceremony, is that the 2016-2017 year be one of challenge, engagement, service and joy!

Thank you for your support of Muskingum - you make tremendous learning opportunities possible for our students!
