Message from the Director
Creating, enhancing and expanding local, national, & International collaboration is one of HAIS's strategic goals for this school year. Having arrived last year ,after many years overseas, I was struck by Hawai'i's ideal location as a gateway between east and west. When I mentioned to my Singaporean colleagues that I was moving to Hawai'i, a huge smile would appear with something like, "I love Hawaii!"

From October 25-30, I will be taking our strategic goal to heart by taking HAIS on the road to attend the annual EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Schools) administrators conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The objective is to raise awareness of HAIS, Hawaiian independent schools and events. I especially aim to publicize the upcoming HAIS Leading Schools of the Future Conference, to be held at the Ala Moana Hotel, on April 6-8, 2017.

I will be joined in Malaysia by colleagues from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Robert McKendry and Joshua Clark and Euysung Kim and Scott Paulin from Asia Pacific International School. This will be a great networking opportunity for all of us.

If you have some brochures describing summer programs, professional development events, or other programs, I would be happy to display your material on our HAIS table in the exhibition hall.

It is often said the world is getting smaller, collaborating with colleagues from abroad will enhance our global understanding.
