Questions for
Reflection

Read the entire story of David's moral failure, 1 Samuel 11:1-12:31.

What do you think motivated David to make this series of horrific decisions? Have you ever had a time in your life where you tried to cover up something? What motivated you?

Why did Nathan approach David with a parable? Do you think this is more effective than a more direct approach? David's entourage certainly knew what was going on. How do you think they participated in and then responded to this coverup and confrontation? How have you engaged someone who you knew was doing something terribly wrong?

There are elements of confession, forgiveness and tragic consequences in this story. How does this propel David's faith forward?

Faith that Moves :: Bounce Back
The Rev. Debbie Whaley, preaching

Nothing stops Faith that Moves more than the times when we fail. Betrayal, revenge, lying, greediness, pettiness and self-righteousness are among the many attitudes and actions that prevent us from nurturing a flourishing faith.

This week we look at one of the David's biggest failures. How does he deal with his sin? How does he bounce back and get right with the Lord?

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday at 7:45 a.m., 10 a.m., or 5 p.m. for worship.

Blessings,
Debbie

P.S. Remember to mark your calendars for our 60th Anniversary Celebration on October 30. Rehearsal for the 60th Anniversary "Everybody Sings" choir will be this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the sanctuary---come and lift your voice to God! We will also be receiving our commitments to the "Generation to Generation" Stewardship Campaign on October 30.

Scripture Passage

2 Samuel 12:7-13 First-Scripture

Nathan said to David, "You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I anointed you king over Israel, and I rescued you from the hand of Saul; I gave you your master's house, and your master's wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added as much more. Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, for you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife. Thus says the Lord: I will raise up trouble against you from within your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this very sun. For you did it secretly; but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun." David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." Nathan said to David, "Now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die.
