Generosity 2017

Have you made your annual giving pledge?

Generosity Sunday has come and gone. It was heartwarming to see the generosity displayed at both services by congregants and friends as we marched down the aisle to place our pledges in the offering baskets.

The 2017 Generosity Campaign, however, did not end last Sunday, but continues on toward our goal of 100% participation.

Please express your gratitude for All Souls by generously pledging to support the church in 2017. Pledges are vital because they help us plan the year's budget, nearly 70% of which is supported by the gifts we make to fulfill our pledges. Your gifts support the church's work, including the words and music we hear on Sunday mornings, the Religious Education program for our children, and our many social justice ministries.

Each of us is called to make a pledge that is thoughtful and generous based on our financial situation and proportional to our net income. We ask that you contribute as generously as your circumstances allow. After all, we are the church! Each and every pledge makes a difference and allows All Souls to fulfill its mission.

We hope that you will take the time soon to go to www.all-souls.org/generosity/2017-pledge-form to pledge online. You can also complete the pledge form in the Annual Giving brochure in the pews and drop it in the offering plate as it passes or take it to the church office. Pledges can be fulfilled in as many payments as you wish throughout the calendar year and can be paid in a variety of ways. A pledge can be adjusted up or down if your circumstances change during the year. If you plan to continue automatic payments from the current year, we still need a 2017 pledge form from you.

Many thanks!

Bruce DePuyt, Sara Hudgins, Betsy Quilligan, and Armele Vilceus

Congregational Sponsorship Request

For anyone preparing to be a Unitarian Universalist Minister, one requirement is sponsorship by a UU congregation they know well and where they have relationships and a theological home. Sponsorship is a way for the congregation to indicate support and best wishes for the ministerial candidate, and to show confidence in their potential for UU ministry.

The All Souls Committee on Ministry is happy to have received an application for sponsorship from our own Norman Allen - who many of you will remember hearing speak from the pulpit over the summer. He's been a member of All Souls for many years and is now a student at Wesley Theological Seminary.

Before the Board of Trustees can affirm sponsorship, however, All Souls' policy includes a congregation-wide call for input on any candidates. So if there's anything you'd like to share about Norman's candidacy, please e-mail us at [email protected].

Thank you!

Opportunities

Sing in a choir. Help decorate the church. Visit fellow congregants to discuss their commitment to All Souls. Become a church leader. Host traveling UUs in your home. Find these and other opportunities on our website.

Interested in helping develop and choose All Souls' leaders? The Leadership Development and Nominating Committee (LDNC) is seeking nominees to serve a three-year term on the 15-member committee. Determine trustee and officer recruitment needs, present nominees to the congregation, and help provide lay leadership developmental opportunities. Contact Susan Crim (buck_crim${"["}@]msn.com) for more information or to request nomination.

In 2015, the UUA adopted a statement of conscience embracing the principles of the reproductive justice movement: (1) the right to have children, (2) the right not to have children, (3) the right to raise children in safe and healthy environments, and (4) the right to health and self-determination regarding one's body and sexuality, free from oppression and shame. The statement encouraged UUs to speak loudly in the religious arena, "as the religious voice has often been used to limit access to reproductive justice." Reproductive justice combines reproductive rights, social justice, and human rights; it is grounded in the particular experiences, values, priorities, and leadership of women of color. For more information, visit www.uua.org/reproductive or sistersong.net. If you are interested in forming a reproductive justice group and incorporating the movement into our congregational life, adult spiritual development, and advocacy initiatives, please contact Tracy Zorpette (tzorpette${"["}@]gmail.com).

Do you have a background in program evaluation or data analysis? Then the Goals Team needs your help for a few months! Get in touch with Cledwyn Jones (m.cledwyn.jones${"["}@]gmail.com) or Matt Bowen (matt${"["}@]mattbowen.net) for details
