Principal's Message

Parents,

Do you have questions about the Common Core State Standards?  Here are a few resources for you:

Understanding the Common Core's Expectations
Helping with Homework
  • Be a Learning Hero allows parents to search by state, grade and subject to find homework support resources.
  • Raise the Bar Parents provides parents with educational 'check ups' they can give their students to see if they're making progress toward meeting the Standards. The site also includes resources to help students improve.
Understanding Assessment Results
  • Great Kids State Test Guide for Parents is designed to help parents understand their students' score reports and includes targeted resources and concrete advice on how parents can help their students improve in areas where they struggle.
Thank you,
Carol Nenni
Murwood Principal
From the Office

As Fall starts making its way in, we get these wonderful cool mornings that change into warm afternoons.  We also get children who shed their jackets and sweaters on the playground when they get hot at recess.  Please be sure you are marking all outerwear with your child's name so we can do our best to make returns.  Also be sure that you are checking the Lost & Found (located just outside of the office), as we are already building quite a collection of items that have been left behind.
From the PTA President

We had a great PTA Meeting last night, where we discussed our upcoming functions like the Halloween Carnival on Saturday, October 29th, the Read-a-Thon starting next week, movie night and the auction.  It was great to have some new faces at the meeting and would love to see more parents attend!!

Are you new to Murwood, volunteering for Walking Club is a great way to meet the kids at the school and to get involved.  We are in need of more volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  If you are interested and would like to learn more about it, please contact Dawn at  [email protected].

Looking forward to our next couple of weeks here at Murwood they will be fun!

Danielle Scheg
PTA President

Read-a-Thon

For the first time in more than a decade, the Murwood PTA is hosting a Read-A-Thon.  We are hoping this new fundraiser will raise money for Murwood Elementary while helping motivate our kids to further develop their love for reading.   Murwood PTA provides essential funds for: computers and technology in every classroom, professional staff development, the library and its media center, playground equipment, classroom and office supplies, disaster preparedness supplies, our garden area, community events, education assemblies, character development programing and so much more!
Look for the personalized information sheet in this week's Wednesday envelope and then follow the link to your child's personal Read-a-Thon page.  Every student that registers with the site receives a prize.  Thank you for  supporting the Murwood PTA's Read-A-Thon. LET'S GET READING!
