Welcome Frazier Family!
Please join us in welcoming our newest partner family, the Fraziers!  Arica Frazier works with individuals with disabilities and currently lives in Sussex County with her four children. She found out about Habitat through a friend and said she was drawn to the supportiveness of the homeowner program.

" This will give my family and I the opportunity to become homeowners and be comfortable with a mortgage that is in my budget and be able to raise my family in a safe environment, starting us on a new journey in life. We are a family that is willing to work hard to get what we want and understand that hard work pays off," she said.  We look forward to working with this wonderful family in the coming months!
Congratulations Shyde'!
Shyde' Walters deserves a big congratulations for officially becoming the newest Habitat homeowner! Shyde' and her two children will be living in Laurel. All of us at Sussex County Habitat wish the family all the best as they start this exciting new chapter of their lives!

Congratulations Jaime!
We are proud to have some amazing leaders on our team!
ReStore Assistant Manager Jaime McNatt was recently accepted to the Omega Women's Leadership Center in Rhinebeck, NY. OWLC aims to promote women's leadership by "convening, inspiring, and training women to lead from their own authentic voice, values, and vision." They offer many workshops and training geared towards the personal and professional development of women.  The center is known for hosting a variety of well-known speakers such as: Elizabeth Gilbert, Maya Angelou, Brene Brown, and Bonnie St. John.

"As my role in leadership develops, the Omega Leadership Intensive will allow me to connect with women leaders who bring a variety of experiences and perspectives, and challenge me to question and combine my values, voice, and vision in my leadership voyage," Jaime says.
In addition to her acceptance to the institute, Jaime was also awarded a partial scholarship to attend the Women's Leadership Intensive for a week in September.   Congratulations on this important honor, Jaime!
Thank you Women Build volunteers!
Sussex County Habitat's Women Build is under way! This month, volunteers and AmeriCorps members worked together on the framing, walls, and roofing of a house in Delmar.

The concept of Women Build began in 1991 when a group of women in Charlotte, North Carolina completed the first women-built Habitat for Humanity house. Today, Women Build continues to grow internationally, empowering women everywhere to address poverty housing for themselves, their families and their neighbors.  The initiative aims to direct financial assistance to women-led projects worldwide.

Register now with Sussex County Habitat for our September dates: Wednesday the 14th and Saturday the 17th! See the flyer below for more details.
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunites

This year, Sussex County Habitat is blessed to be named the recipient of all proceeds from the 2016 Bethany Beach Jazz Funeral Silent Auction. To make this event a success, we need your help! Volunteers are needed to help run the Silent Auction on Friday, September 2nd from 2:30-4:30 pm. Contact Traci at AR@sussexcountyhabitat.org to sign up.

Thank you Sparkle Team!
Members of the Sparkle Team with Director Rebecca Madden
The Sparkle Team deserves a huge shoutout for the amazing work that they do. After each home dedication and before settlement, this cheerful crew makes sure the house is sparkling clean and ready for the new homeowners. As part of its community outreach, the Salvation Army's Developmental Disabilities Program formed the Sparkle Team four years ago under the direction of Rebecca Madden.  "We help the team focus on what they can do, not on what they can't," said Madden in an interview with the Cape Gazette.

Thank you Sparkle Team for continuing to improve the lives of others!
Welcome Audrey!
Please join us in welcoming Audrey as the new Repairs Program Coordinator!

Audrey came to SCHFH shortly after moving to Dagsboro. Growing up, she served through Habitat as well as other non-profit organizations, working with her Christian church in Maryland. She attended Stevenson University where she received a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. Before moving to Sussex County, Audrey worked with her church as the Children at Worship Coordinator, where she planned weekly youth activities and community outreach.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to serve again with Habitat for Humanity. It is so rewarding to be a part of a vision that brings communities together. I look forward to starting this new chapter with Habitat, and seeing how much we can grow."

Spotlight On ...
Charlene McNeal partnered with us in 2009 and moved into her
Georgetown home  a year later. Finding out she was going to be a Habitat homeowner was "a blessing," she says; she had previously been living in transitional housing and the stability of owning a home affected the whole family. Her daughter has since graduated from high school and has taken some college courses, and last year Charlene completed an Associate's Degree in human services. Having a stable living environment also made it easier for her to accumulate some savings, which she said came in handy when her car needed repairs. Homeownership isn't always easy, she says, but she takes it "one day at a time." She is also grateful for the support of her neighbors who are always ready to lend a hand.

"I'm decorating right now and doing landscaping," she said. "I never liked planting flowers until [owning a home]. Now I try to do a new flower every year."
