Stevens Forest Elementary School (SFES)

National PTA Reflections at SFES
Reflections is an art competition that challenges students to reflect on a theme -- this year's is "what is your story" -- and to interpret their thoughts through art.
There are six categories: visual arts, film production, dance composition, photography, literature and music composition. Students can submit one entry in as many categories as they choose. Most students choose to participate in just one, but we have had students submit entries for as many as 3. There are two age divisions: primary (PreK-2nd) and Intermediate (3rd-5th.)
Entries will be judged by local community members in November. The top 3 entries for each category in each age division will advance to the county competition. From there, entries can advance to the state and national level competitions.
If interested, please complete this form and attach to your student's entry. Entries without submission forms will not be considered by the county. They are very strict about this.
Submissions will be due on November 4th. To submit, please bring your child's entry to the front office, where there will be a collection box.
If you have any questions about the competition please feel free to email me at   two3foots@yahoo.com . Please email me also if you student plans on participating so I have an idea of how many students will be involved this year.

Thursday, November 3rd, 7 - 9 p.m., River Hill High School, 12101 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, Free program, open to all. No pre-registration required.

ADHD and Irritability: Is There a Connection?
Most people asked to describe a child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) might use words like forgetful, restless, impulsive, disorganized, and disruptive. Researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) are studying an important, but little-understood feature seen in many children with ADHD: irritability. The workshop will address how adults trying to help children with ADHD should think about irritability. The workshop will also address research that is beginning to offer clues about brain mechanisms and underlying irritability, and new ways to approach treatment.
Dr. Towbin is Chief of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Emotion and Development Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health Intramural Research Program. The group with which he is affiliated focuses its research on identifying and treating childhood bipolar disorder and severe irritability in children. His interests include emotional dysregulation in children and adolescents, bipolar disorder, tic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and pervasive developmental disorders.
