Chile: Stories of Hope and Resilience
By Christopher Ney

Before beginning her presentation, she arranged the items carefully on a table: a handwoven tapestry from Paraguay, a simple pack of gum, two homemade dolls, a bouquet of paper flowers, a coffee mug and more. Each object served as a prompt for a story.

Elena Huegel is a story teller. With this simple technique, she modeled some of what she learned from her years of service with the Pentecostal Church of Chile - trusting in the presence of the Holy Spirit to ensure that the right stories were shared at each location.

Read more about Elena Huegel's recent visit to the Conference, marking the end of her 20 years as a missionary in Chile.
Mass ReLeaf Receives Abernathy Award for Service
The artful display in the sanctuary of Wellesley Congregational (Village) Church told the story in a worshipful way: the wheelbarrow and rake, the well-known photo of Earth taken from the Moon, flowers and greens and recycling bags...and a young tree, awaiting its permanent home.

Such was the setting when the Mass ReLeaf ministry of the Massachusetts Conference, and Director Neal Seaborn, received the church's Abernathy Award, honoring exemplary spirit and practice of service to others.

Hurricane Matthew touches us all
By Don Remick
It's been a while since we've seen a Category 5 hurricane.  And unless you've been there you really can't imagine what 150+ mile an hour winds can do.  Haiti can tell you.  And Florida.  And the many islands and lives in between.
And, though as of this writing it looks like Matthew won't make landfall in New England, it doesn't mean this storm won't impact us. It already does, as we see the devastation of a day's worth of rainfall that surpasses two feet. It does as we see flattened buildings, flooding everywhere and the blank anxious stares of people.
