The NFF announced that Hofmann Brands, a 137-year-old purveyor of premium meats, has been named the Official Hotdog, Sausage and Handwich of the National Football Foundation.

As part of the partnership, Hofmann Brands will be the 2016 presenting sponsor of the NFF John L. Toner Award, which is annually bestowed for excellence in athletics administration. As the presenting sponsor of the award, Hofmann Brands will also be making a donation to the academic services within the athletics department at the Toner recipient's institution.

2016 College Football Hall of Fame electee Herb Orvis (Colorado) was honored Oct. 15 with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the Buffaloes' game against Arizona State. A First Team All-American in 1971, he finished his career as Colorado's all-time leader in sacks (20) and second in tackles for loss (32). Click here to read more about Orvis.

During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each inductee returns to his alma mater or school where they coached to accept a Hall of Fame plaque that will remain on permanent display at the institution. Orvis will officially be inducted at the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner, held at New York City's historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

2016 College Football Hall of Fame electee Mike Utley (Washington State) was honored Oct. 15 with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the Cougars' game against UCLA. A three-time All-Pac-10 selection, Utley earned First Team accolades in 1988 after leading Washington State to its best record in 58 years and a triumphed in the Aloha Bowl, which marked the school's first postseason win since 1916Click here to read more about Utley.

Alabama remains No. 1 in the Week 7 FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll. Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan and Washington round out the top five in the poll, in which voters rank the top 16 FBS teams.

The results of the poll will be released every Sunday of the 2016 season and the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The final poll will be released Dec. 4. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers.
The Orange Bowl Committee announced that it will hold the inaugural Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase, a free one day event in association with the National Football Foundation (NFF) and its local chapters, that will bring together academically qualified high school seniors from Florida, and football coaches from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA programs across the country. 

The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase will provide an unprecedented opportunity for young student-athletes to use their athletic and academic skills to earn collegiate scholarships, and ultimately a college degree.
 
The Showcase will take place on Feb. 25, 2017, at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla.
Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Fla., will add football to its slate of varsity athletic programs, with intercollegiate action beginning during the 2018-19 academic year. The Seahawks will play in the NAIA's Sun Conference.

The first official game is expected to be played in Fall 2018 with the search for a head coach to begin immediately. Completion of the stadium, track and additional athletics facilities are anticipated for completion late Summer 2018.

NFF Board Member and College Football Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott (Southern California) will make his annual visit to speak to the Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) football team on Oct. 20.

College Football Hall of Famer Orlando Pace (Ohio State) was named the recipient of the 2016 Walter Camp "Alumni Award."

Minding Your Mind and the Andrew Kukes Foundation for Social Anxiety have joined forces to host College Football Hall of Famer Ricky Williams (Texas) during an event  Oct. 19 at Georgia State University

College Football Hall of Famer Zach Thomas will   become  the newest member of the Texas Tech Football Ring of Honor Oct. 22 prior to the Red Raiders game against Oklahoma.

College Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff (Florida State) will be  inducted  into the State of Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Oct. 22. Longtime college football offensive line coach Joe Moore will also be inducted.

College Football Hall of Famer Don McPherson (Syracuse) visited the campus of Pace University (N.Y.) last week to speak with student-athletes and other members of the student body.

Boz Bostrom, a former Saint John's (Minn.) football players, has written a new book about his coach, College Football Hall of Famer John Gagliardi titled, " Legacy   Unrivaled : The Story of John Gagliardi."

2013 William V. Campbell Trophy winner John Urschel (Penn State), now with the Baltimore Ravens and working toward his Ph.D., is featured in a new national commercial for Bose headphones. Urschel appeared in an ad for Gillette earlier this year.

2016 NFF Chris Schenkel Award winner Bob Rondeau, the longtime Voice of the Washington Huskies,  will be inducted  into to the university's 2016 Husky Hall of Fame Class at a ceremony on Oct. 23. Also being inducted are former football players Olin Kreutz and Nate Robinson and the 1984 Washington football team, which was coached by College Football Hall of Famer Don James and featured NFF National Scholar-Athletes Dan Eernissee and Hugh Millen.


NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is UCF quarterback Justin Holman, who maintains a 3.21 GPA in health sciences.

Over The Middle
NFF Vermont Chapter president Mickey Heinecken will be among those inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 28. Heinecken played and later coached at Delaware before becoming the head coach at Middlebury (Vt.). 

The  Little Rock Touchdown Club/NFF Arkansas Chapter's   2016 fall speaker series continued yesterday with Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson. On Oct. 24, the chapter will host the Razorback Southwest Conference Hall of Fame ceremony. Click here to see videos of this year's speakers.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host the Paul Savage Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament at the Columbia Golf Club in Columbia, Ill., on Oct. 23. Then the chapter will host a luncheon on Oct. 26 at Lombardo's Airport restaurant featuring Dr. Brian Mahaffeythe St. Louis Cardinals team physician.

Scheduling

ESPN Events announced that FCS teams Jacksonville State and Chattanooga will face off in the inaugural Montgomery Kickoff Classic in 2017... The LSU vs. Florida game, postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19, at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge... South Alabama and Presbyterian, the originally scheduled Nov. 19 opponents for LSU and Florida, respectively, will now play each other on Nov. 19... Boston College and Missouri will play a home-and-home series in 2021 and 2024... The series between Florida State and Boise State in 2019 and 2020 has changed scheduled dates... Louisiana Monroe will play at Florida State in 2017 and 2019 and at Ole Miss in 2018... 

Nevada and UTEP agreed to a home-and-home series in  2019 and 2020...
