ON THE BIG SCREEN: DOCNYC, IDFA, and more!

WMM has had a banner year with film festivals beginning with two top honors at the Sundance Film Festival, and numerous  Audience Awards and accolades from SXSW, Hot Docs, Full Frame, True/False, Human Rights Watch Film Festivals and beyond!

The film slate of the DOCNYC Film Festival will feature several WMM supported films including TRAPPED (Dawn Porter), CAMERAPERSON (Kirsten Johnson), WEINER (Elyse Steinberg, Josh Kriegman), 95 AND 6 TO GO (Kimi Takesue),  SWIM TEAM (Lara Stolman), and CARE from PA Alum (Deidre Fishel).

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) will be screening the following films from our Production Assistance Program:  CAMERAPERSON  (Kirsten Johnson), THE LAST LAUGH  (Ferne Pearlstein), LOVETRUE  (Alma Har'el),  NATIONAL BIRD  (Sonia Kennebeck), NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU (Rachel Grady, Heidi Ewing), and  WEINER  (Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg). The IDFA FORUM, a co-production and co-financing market, is one of the most essential meeting places for independent documentary film. This year's forum will include PA films: LAWS OF LOVE  (Hikaru Toda) and OBSTINATE  (Sahra Mosawi). WMM staff, Executive Director,  Debra Zimmerman, Kristen Fitzpatrick, Distribution Director, and Barbara Ghammashi, PA Program Director will all be attending the film festival and forum.

A REVOLUTION IN FOUR SEASONS (Jessie Deeter) recently  opened the Margaret Mead Film Festival to a sold out crowd, the event was also the film's US premiere.

In early November, WMM'S Executive Director, Debra Zimmerman will to go Hawaii. She was invited by the Hawaii Women in Filmmaking to speak at the  Hawaiian Media Makers Conference, on the "Changing the Narrative" - a panel addressing what is working and proposing ways to create the change that is needed to advance women in the film industry. Debra will also be presenting on a panel about the current state of distribution, and will meet with film producers in collaboration with colleagues from the NEA, NAMAC, ITVS, and PBS Digital. The conference is produced by Hawaii Women in Filmmaking, Pacific Islanders in Communications, and the Hawaii International Film Festival.

Debra was also recently "down under" at the  Antenna Documentary Film Festival  in Sydney, Australia! At the festival she served on the International Competition Jury and presented an in-depth program at DOC TALK:  Distribution Meets Social Impact at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
