Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College Professor Lee Chosen as Faculty Fellow for LEAP Project
SAC Professor Dr. Jonathan D. Lee has been selected as a faculty fellow for the LEAP project.

Dr. Jonathan D. Lee, history professor at Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College (SAC), was recently selected as a faculty fellow for the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) LEAP Texas Faculty Collaboratives project. Funded in part by the Lumina Foundation, this project serves as a source for broad engagement to build networked communities and shared repositories for faculty leadership and learning across Texas and throughout the nation. 

Faculty fellows will benefit from active interaction with creative and energetic faculty members throughout the state and at the national level. The fellowship, effective October 2016, will last through August 31, 2017.

Teaching U.S. and World History, Dr. Lee has been a full-time faculty member at SAC since 1997. From 2011 to 2016, he oversaw the creation, development and growth of SAC's Honors Academy. In addition to teaching, Dr. Lee works with the dean of performance excellence to oversee the college's unit review process. Dr. Lee's project for LEAP Texas ties into this new role and involves working with faculty at SAC to improve the assessment of the college's student learning outcomes.


Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College Adds Industrial Technology Degree Program for Spring 2017
Palo Alto College will offer an associate of applied science degree in Industrial Technology in Spring 2017.


In spring 2017, Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College (PAC) will begin offering
a new Industrial Technology degree program to support the high demand for workers in advanced manufacturing in San Antonio. 

The associate of applied science (AAS) in Industrial Technology consists of two program tracks-Manufacturing Specialization and Instrumentation Specialization. These tracks will provide career opportunities for high school students as well as others who are interested in the career and technical education field.

The San Antonio Manufacturing Association (SAMA), an organization comprised of representatives from manufacturing businesses throughout the San Antonio area, serves as an advisory committee for the program. According to SAMA, advanced manufacturing is a competitive field of high growth, where multi-skilled technicians are in constant demand across the globe.

Industrial Technology classrooms will feature state-of-the-art equipment allowing students to gain hands-on experience by applying what they've learned in the curriculum.

Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College Student, Faculty Member Named
to Advisory Board

Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) student Nicolas Villarreal has been selected to serve as a student representative on the advisory board for Project MALES, which is part of the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color. Dr. Archie Wortham, NLC speech professor, will also serve on the advisory board.

Launched in 2010, Project MALES (Mentoring to Achieve Latino Educational Success) is a multi-faceted research and mentoring initiative based within the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE) at the University of Texas at Austin. Its goal is to shed greater light on the plight of Latino males in education. 

Project MALES encompasses three interrelated initiatives: an ongoing research agenda focused on understanding the experiences of Latino males across the education pipeline; a mentoring program that aims to cultivate an engaged support network for males of color at UT-Austin and across the Central Texas community; and a newly launched statewide P-16 consortium focused on the success of male students of color. 

The advisory board is comprised of administrators from consortium member colleges and two students from around the state. Villarreal is a second-year student at NLC, pursuing an associate of science degree. He plans to transfer to UT Austin and plans to become a neurosurgeon. NLC  joined the consortium in 2015.  Wortham continues to be recognized for his leadership and c ontinued support for the Men of Color in Education initiative.
