Issue # 97 - October 2016

Happy Fall! My mother loved fall colors and so do I. She would have enjoyed this display I saw in Maggie Valley, NC on a trip to the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. (I laughed at the pumpkin hineys!)
If you are in Kentucky or Tennessee this month, I hope to see you. I'll be autographing at the following places:
*Southern Festival of Books in Nashville
 Oct. 14th 3-5 at the SCBWI-Midwest Booth
*Books-a-Million in Knoxville, TN. on Oct. 29th
*KY Book Festival in Frankfort, KY on Nov. 4th and 5th. Have a great autumn, Debbie
Multicultural Children's Book Day is January 27th. Click for free book.
Diversity is important in books. You can tell I believe in it,
just by looking at the covers of my recent books. I hope
you'll check your bookshelves to make sure all kids in your  classroom are represented. Check out the link above for activities to help you prepare for Multicultural Book Day.
To prepare for Earth Day, hope you'll read this.

Visiting schools is one of my delights and
these kids made it so fun this past moth!

Don't be scared! Click here for Halloween books. Click here for activities to go along with the election (the scariest thing of all this season!)
I bought some Christmas presents yesterday!! If you are like me  and like to get holiday gifts in advance, I hope you'll check out these great deals on the Scholastic 2nd and 3rd grade October book club forms. If you'd like your books autographed, just let me know and I'll send autographed book plates your way (let me know to whom you'd like it autographed and I'll be happy to personalize one for each of your students.)
What do you do when the last of your beloved children trot off into the world? Well, after crying I agreed to do an online Writer's Digest Conference on November 12th. Hope you'll check my author Facebook page as I share more details as I get them. I wish you much happiness and safety in the coming weeks, Debbie
