The Steaming Tea Kettle is Back at Government Center

The massive copper Steaming Tea Kettle is now back in Government Center above Starbucks' entrance (63-65 Court St.). The teapot was removed earlier this year after being damaged by a truck.

The Oriental Tea Co. debuted the teapot in 1873, which drew attention due to its size and steaming action (it actually emits steam).

The teapot's repairs included fixing the plumbing, replacing a rotten wooden lid with a replica made from resin -- and covering it in a thin film of gold, according to the Boston Globe.

The tea kettle weighs roughly 300 pounds, and the writing on it says it holds: 227 gallons, 2 quarts, 1 pint and 3 gills.

"We are very excited about the Steaming Tea Kettle returning to Government Center. It is one of the many beloved historical icons around the downtown area," said BID President & CEO  Rosemarie Sansone . "I remember it from my first job when we would go and get coffee when it was the Oriental Tea Company. I can't imagine Boston without it."
Beautifully Painted Boston Landscapes at Crump Studio on Tremont Street

Norman Crump's art studio can almost be missed when you're walking past it at 76 Tremont St. It's a street level space in between the Omni Parker House and the Tremont Temple Baptist Church (technically it's in the church). But you don't want to miss Crump's beautiful paintings.
Crump is a self-taught painter, who likes painting landscapes such as the Boston Public Garden, Boston Common and street scenes.

"Boston's beautiful. I like painting things I can see, especially marshes," said Crump, who uses acrylic, oil, water color mediums on paper and canvas. Original prints and copies are available for purchase at the gallery, and he likes when people stop to ask him questions while he's in the studio.

Crump also does commission work on a regular basis, so don't hesitate to contact him if there is a scene you'd like painted.

Crump has had other studio locations through the years, and his Tremont Street one opened in May. He feels like he's got a lot more painting to do of the Downtown Boston area. "I'm just scratching the surface."

Crump Studio is open 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays, and if the studio is not open it's very likely that Crump is out painting. You can contact him by calling 617-330-1133,
