Energy Spotlights
Campus Spotlight
On Thursday, September 27 the Houston Public Library Foundation gave our 12th-grade student Michael Osueke (along with four other children) the honor of the Mrs. Kathrine McGovern, of the John P. McGovern Foundation, with a City of Houston Proclamation. Michael honored and acknowledged her with a few words at the event. Michael was chosen for reading the most books this summer in the Houston Public Library's Summer Reading program. Well done Michael!
Student Spotlight
Stella Harkness, a freshmen here at Energy, was chosen as both a "Ball Kid" and a "Flag Kid" for the 100 th Anniversary of the Copa America Soccer Tournament last June. It is was the first time the Copa America Tournament has ever been played in the United States and Houston was one of the host cities. Stella got to carry the flag and throw in the ball every time it went out of bounds. She also interacted with famous soccer players, such as Argentina's Lionel Messi, Colombia's James Rodriguez, and Mexico's Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez!
Teacher Spotlight
Mrs. Wilson is the sophomore English teacher for the Nuclear Barnstormer's cohort. She attended Texas Tech to pursue a career in teaching. Her super "English nerd skills" drove her through college and she was inspired by her family heritage of teachers. As a teacher, she goes out of her way to support students and she empathizes with the difficulties her students may face. Many view her as a charismatic and joyful teacher, making her loved by many. Mrs. Wilson is a helpful, supportive teacher, and an overall delightful person. We welcome you here at Energy and we appreciate your "energy".

CAMPUS FEEDBACK FROM LAST WEEK

Student Insight
The Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test ( PSAT ) is coming up shortly for all of our Energy Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. Below are some tips and tricks of the trade in order to help you achieve the highest score possible.

Better Late than Never:  Study, study, and study some more. Any studying is better than none at all.

Khan Academy is a Lifesaver Khan Academy offers a variety of tools including free, yes free, online practice for the SAT and ACT. There's nothing specific for the PSAT, but if you take their SAT practice it will prepare you more than enough for the test.

Finish the Whole Test:  Finish the whole test. This sounds simple, but as you start to test, sometimes questions get too hard and you want to quit. Finishing the whole test improves your chances for a higher score.

The Test Matters:  This test matters. This is your first shot at showing colleges you have what it takes to succeed. From the PSAT results, colleges will screen you for the  National Merit Scholarship Program

Educated, Not Randomized:  If you truly don't know an answer, make an educated guess through the process of elimination. Also, this test doesn't penalize you for wrong answers; so, try your hardest to narrow down the answer selection.
