The SUMA staff are ready for another tour across Saskatchewan for SUMA's 2016 Regional Meetings! These meetings are an invaluable opportunity to gain knowledge, discuss hot topics and challenges within your region, and get up to date with SUMA and our work. Your Regional Director will also be elected at this meeting, so please ensure that your newly elected officials are sworn in
before the meeting if they want a chance to represent your region on the SUMA Board of Directors.

Municipal Leaders' Roles and Responsibilities Workshop
While SUMA staff are touring the province for regional meetings, we will also be offering two Municipal Leaders' Roles and Responsibilities
(MLRR) workshop, formerly known as the Newly Elected Workshop. New and returning elected council members, and municipal staff are encouraged to take in this valuable session.

Media Relations for Municipal Leaders on YouTube
The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) has posted a recent webinar,
Media Relations for Municipal Leaders, to its YouTube channel. This engaging webinar runs just over an hour and is presented by former
four-term Edmonton city councillor
Karen Leibovici, and Doug Downs, a consultant with JGR Communications. Tune in to learn about preparation; the use of social media; personal branding; the impact of body language and gender biases; and dealing with nerves.

Do you have long-serving employees or elected officials in your municipality? They may be eligible for our
Meritorious or
Honorary Service Awards.
Do you have someone in your municipality who has provided outstanding service in municipal government or administration on a local, provincial, and national basis? They may be eligible for the
Scoop Lewry Award. Remember that this nomination needs to be approved by
resolution by council.

Affordable Rental Innovation Fund
The Canadian Housing and Morgage Corporation (CMHC) is now accepting proposals for the Affordable Rental Innovation Fund first announced in the 2016 federal budget. The fund is a $200 million program over five years, intended to create up to 4,000 new affordable rental units across Canada. Funding is available to individuals and organizations who want to build affordable rental housing in Canadian communities where there is a demonstrated need. Find out more on the CMHC website.

Call for Proposals: Municipal-First Nations Solid Waste Management
Municipalities and First Nations are invited to apply to the Community Infrastructure Partnership Project to establish joint solid waste management projects. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is delivering the program with funds from Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. Six partnerships between First Nations and municipalities will get facilitation and capacity building services for two years (2016-18) to develop service agreements on solid waste management, including recycling and composting. Don't miss this valuable opportunity;

Community Rink Affordability Grant
Putting in indoor ice this winter? Apply for the
Community Rink Affordability Grant from the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association. The deadline to submit registrations is
December 16, 2016.
Follow ups will begin January 2017.

Federal Rail Safety Improvement Program
The Government of Canada has recently announced an expanded Rail Safety Improvement Program, focused on funding for: improving the safety of existing rail lines; closing unsafe or unused grade crossings; and initiatives that raise awareness about rail safety concerns across Canada. The government has allocated $12 million to the program in 2016-17, $20 million in 2017-18, and $20 million in 2018-19.
Urban governments can apply directly to the federal government for funding, and the deadlines for applications are December 23, 2016 for infrastructure projects, and January 31, 2017 for public education and awareness projects.
