Congratulating
Ayala Serfaty for (another) remarkable achievement, called 'Soma, 2015.' The enormous light sculpture was commissioned by the
Corning Museum of Glass and Tina Oldknow, its Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Glass, who selected Serfaty as one of only five artists representing “the vanguard of contemporary art in glass made in the last seven years.” The piece, crafted of an intricate glass skeleton coated with an ethereal polymer and lit from within by a network of tiny lights, will be on a permanent view starting next month at the newly-opened Contemporary Art + Design Wing, which was recently, designed by architect Thomas Phifer and Partners as the largest space anywhere dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art in glass. An accomplished piece for an ambitious new wing.
