PWP CELEBRATES PUBLIC POWER WEEK: OCT. 2-8, 2016

PWP is proud to have participated in Public Power Week along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 48 million Americans.

PWP kicked off the week with an assembly at Washington Middle School on Tuesday, Oct. 4. During the assembly, 170 sixth graders received a first-hand account of what it takes to provide power to Pasadena as they heard from Interim General Manager Gurcharan Bawa, as well as Power Supply field crew members. The students also received an Efficiency Kit with tools that encourage energy efficiency such as LED light bulbs, digital thermometers which can be used to test the temperature of household refrigerators and water heaters, and more.   PWP takes pride in empowering our youth through educational programs and activities. RAIN BARREL DISTRIBUTION EVENT & RAIN HARVESTING CLASS: OCT. 22

As we enter the fall season, rain may not be far behind. PWP wants to make sure you're equipped to take advantage of the rainfall by capturing runoff from your roof and using it to water your garden.  Plants prefer rainwater because it is naturally "soft" and free of chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals. PWP customers will have another opportunity to pre-purchase a rain barrel and pick it up at a distribution event on Saturday, October 22 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Lake Avenue Church, 393 N. Lake Avenue in Pasadena . Additionally, customers interested in learning how to best utilize the barrels can attend the Rainwater Harvesting Class from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m (same day, same location).

The cost is $85 each but FREE after rebates provided by Metropolitan Water District and PWP.  Rain barrels must be purchased prior to the event, up to 2 per household. To learn more about the event and how you can pre-order your rain barrel, click here

NATIVE GARDEN AT JACKIE ROBINSON POST OFFICE

The Jackie Robinson Post Office will soon receive a new native plant garden thanks to a collaboration with Transition Pasadena, the City of Pasadena, and local nurseries. PWP will provide and install an efficient irrigation system and smart water controller, and the City's Forestry Department will deliver 15 cubic yards of mulch to the site. The makeover will transform the bare patch of land in front of the post office into a low-maintenance, California-native garden.

PWP is proud to help promote the use of drought-tolerant landscapes throughout Pasadena. Such gardens reduce water consumption and require much less maintenance after the new landscape is established.
