Message from Mrs. Kunze

Monday, October 17th IS a regular school day.  This is our make-up day from our first hurricane, Hermine, when school was cancelled on Friday, September 2nd.

A decision has NOT been made regarding make-up days for the 3 days missed due to Hurricane Matthew.  The district will communicate the make-up days when the decision has been made.

The end of the 1st quarter was still Friday, Oct 14th but I did give teachers permission to push back their tests to early this week if they felt students were not prepared to test last week. The district dates for grades being finalized is Friday, Oct. 21st and the report card date is Friday, Oct. 28th

BOOK DRIVE FOR SOUTH WOODS ELEMENTARY

WHO:  PTSO Swiss Point Cares Committee and student council are partnering to provide support to South Woods Elementary, a St Johns County School near Elkton, FL. The population at South Woods Elementary is highly impoverished, does not receive significant external support (like our own fantastic business partners!), so they have many unmet needs.

WHAT: The school has specifically requested books in order for kids to have books to keep and read at home. Many South Woods Elementary students DO NOT have books of their own at home. Having books available to read is important for building reading and overall academic skills.

WHEN: BOOK DRIVE IS HAPPENING NOW! OCT 13-20. STUDENTS PLEASE BRING IN NEW OR GENTLY USED BOOKS (APPROPRIATE FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS). COLLECTION BOXES ARE AVAILABLE IN EACH HOMEROOM

BONUS: THE HOMEROOM FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL THAT COLLECTS THE MOST DONATED BOOKS WILL EARN A DONUT PARTY HOSTED BY PTSO SWISS POINT CARES COMMITTEE.

LETS BRING THE GIFT OF READING TO THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST!

PLEASE CONTACT Holly Antal (hantal@nemours.org) with any questions related to the book drive

The PTSO could use your talents!!
We have an urgent need to fill some spots!  Please take a look and consider lending us your talent and time!
TREASURER -  most important at this time!
Magazine Fundraiser
Book Fair - coming in spring
Thank you for all you do!

Magazine/Tumbler Sales - Tumblers were distributed today to students.  If your student did not pick up the Tumblers, they may do so next Wednesday during lunch.  On Tuesday passes will be given out for the Dodgeball party, if your student received two passes, that means they earned a "bring a friend" pass.  Please have them give the white copy to their friend.  The Dodgeball party will be on Wednesday 10/19.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary Panariello at Mary.panariello@hrblock.com

Join us for our next meeting on October 24, 2016 @ 10:15am

Information Changes
It is imperative that parents call into school to change home phone numbers, cell numbers, work numbers and email addresses as soon as they are changed.  In an emergency situation, it is difficult to contact parents when the information provided is not correct. Please contact Norma Miller at  norma.miller@stjohns.k12.fl.us with changes.

Immunization Records
Parents, I wanted you to know that anytime this school year, 2016/2017, that you get your 11 year old student their Tdap shot, you can bring it to the school, fax it or scan it. You don't have to wait till they are just about to enter 7 th  grade to get this immunization to us.  In fact, many 6 th  graders who are 11 already have it. This is a 7 th  grade requirement but to avoid delays, waiting in lines turning them in on Back To School Day, get it to us early!!  We would really appreciate it. Our fax number is 547-8635. You can also email it to norma.miller@stjohns.k12.fl.us .  The shot record must be on a Florida 680 form.
