Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk, the 2016 recipient of the NFF John L. Toner Award, was honored Oct. 8 with an NFF On-Campus Salute during the Midshipmen's upset of Houston. His notable accomplishments at Navy have included engineering the Midshipmen's move to the American Athletic Conference in football and the hiring of Ken Niumatalolo, now the school's all-time winningest football coach. Click here to read more about Gladchuk.

The NFF On-Campus Salutes are a special tradition, providing the NFF honorees a coveted opportunity to be recognized on the field during a home game. Gladchuk will officially be honored during the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 6 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

2016 College Football Hall of Fame electee Tom Cousineau (Ohio State) was honored Oct. 8 with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the Buckeyes' game against IndianaA two-time consensus First Team All-American, his 569 career tackles rank second all-time in Ohio State history, and he still holds six school recordsClick here to read more about Cousineau.

During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each inductee returns to his alma mater or school where they coached to accept a Hall of Fame plaque that will remain on permanent display at the institution. Cousineau will officially be inducted at the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner, held at New York City's historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The NFF announced the names of five outstanding individuals as the recipients of the 2016 NFF National High School Scholar-Athlete Awards.  The five honorees, who are now playing college football after graduating high school in 2016, are being recognized solely for their accomplishments in high school. They will be honored during the NFF Chapter Awards Luncheon, presented by Under Armour, on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

The 2016 NFF National High School Scholar-Athlete Honorees are:
  • Andrew Griffin - from Avon High School in Avon, Ind., and the Central Indiana Chapter in the Midwest Region. (Currently attending Princeton University.)
  • Scooter Harrington- from Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Conn., and the DeSantis-McDougall/Fairfield County (Conn.) Chapter in the Northeast Region. (Currently attending Stanford University.)
  • Matthew Mitchell - from Joy Christian School in Glendale, Ariz., and the Valley of the Sun (Ariz.) Chapter in the West Region. (Currently attending Phoenix College [Ariz.].)
  • John Orr - from Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tenn., and the Middle Tennessee Chapter in the South Region. (Currently attending Princeton University.)
  • Stephen Spanellis - from Gilman School in Baltimore, Md., and the Greater Baltimore Chapter in the East Region. (Currently attending the University of Michigan.)
Alabama remains No. 1 in the Week 6 FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll. Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan and Washington round out the top five in the poll, in which voters rank the top 16 FBS teams.

The results of the poll will be released every Sunday of the 2016 season and the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The final poll will be released Dec. 4. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers.

College Football Hall of Famer Zach Thomas will   become  the newest member of the Texas Tech Football Ring of Honor Oct. 22 prior to the Red Raiders game against Oklahoma.

College Football Hall of Famer Bill Glass was  named  to Baylor's Wall of Honor and will participate in on-campus enshrinement activities during the Oct. 14-15 weekend.

College Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff (Florida State) will be  inducted  into the State of Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Oct. 22. Longtime college football offensive line coach Joe Moore will also be inducted.

John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham, Ala., named its football field in honor of College Football Hall of Famer Pat Sullivan (Auburn).

2006 Campbell Trophy winner Brian Leonard   will be inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 14.

2016 NFF Chris Schenkel Award winner Bob Rondeau, the longtime Voice of the Washington Huskies,  will be inducted  into to the university's 2016 Husky Hall of Fame Class at a ceremony on Oct. 23. Also being inducted are former football players Olin Kreutz and Nate Robinson and the 1984 Washington football team, which was coached by College Football Hall of Famer Don James and featured NFF National Scholar-Athletes Dan Eernissee and Hugh Millen.


NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is Brooks Ellis, a linebacker at Arkansas who maintains a 3.82 GPA in exercise science.

The $18,000 postgraduate scholarships are presented at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. 

Launched in 2008, the NFF Scholar-Athlete Alumni Association provides a powerful vehicle for past honorees to remain in the vanguard of the NFF's present efforts.
