Did You Know...
The human eye actually perceives images upside down. It's the brain that flips the image.
Visual Poem/Puzzle
Thought for the Week

People will do a task rather than be idle, but the task has to be seen as worthwhile. If people perceive it to be busywork, then they prefer to stay idle.

This Week's Episode

The Visual Leader: A New Identity (ENCORE)

What is visual leadership? Why is it so important? How do leaders become more effective? And what does "effective leadership" mean anyway? These are just a few of the questions your host and visual expert, Dr. Gwendolyn Galsworth, tackles this week as she launches her new series on visual leadership. The fact is: Compelling, natural leaders are rare in any field-regardless of industry or venue. Executives, managers, supervisors! To make a compelling leadership contribution to the  enterprise...

Doorway 6:
Visual Guarantees (Poka-Yoke Systems)
by Gwendolyn Galsworth

A visual guarantee is a mechanism that builds information so deeply into the process of work that it becomes the work itself. When that happens, it becomes impossible to do the wrong thing. We are only able to do the right thing. Such devices are already a part of process and quality control solutions in community settings. The credit card that functions only when inserted the correct way. The gas pump with its series of error proof devices to make it possible-in the United States at least-for even the most untutored citizen to pump his/her own gas without blowing up the city. But such devices (aka, mistake-proof, error-proof or poka-yoke solutions) are far less current in the workplace-if not entirely absent.
1. Notice the spring, part of the built-in protection in this syringe.
2. A second push releases the guard that prevents many unhappy outcomes.

The first module in Work That Makes Sense-eleven individual webinars aimed at teaching operators how to think visually and convert their own work areas to a visual work environment.

You discover what a visual workplace is, why it is so important to operational performance, and the role the workforce plays in making work visual. Dozens of smart visual solutions are presented for study and discussion-solutions found in the community and in workplaces around the world. From the Editor:
"Let's Start the New Year Right"
I welcome 2015 with an Irving Berlin song lyric from the movie, "Holiday Inn":
"Let's watch the old year die
With a fond good-bye
And our hopes as high as a kite"

VTI's hopes for 2015 are sky-high. Our focus for the final quarter of 2014 was to make sure that by the start of 2015, your experience with Visual Thinking would be clearer, brighter, and easier. We met that goal, with our new webinars (see the Featured Product of the Month), our shiny new website, and just being released this week,
a NEW BOOK from Dr. Galsworth that can lead you to your next generation of growth and profit,
Smart Simple Design/Reloaded:
Variety Effectiveness And The Cost Of Complexity.
This book provides a vision of a better way, and the precise pathway for getting there.
We are excited for your new year prospects!
Join the movement toward Visual Thinking in 2015!
