The Visual Where: Borders
,
Addresses, ID Labels

What borders are, how they work, and why Dr. Galsworth considers them the single most important element in achieving visual order. You will also see dozens of brilliant addresses and ID labels and learn how the absence of either can result in accidents, mix-ups, defects, long lead time-and a ton of struggle.

Did You Know...
You usually can only see rainbows in the morning and afternoons before the sun is too high in the sky. If the sun happens to be 42-degrees or higher above the horizon you won't be able to see the rainbow because it would be below the horizon. The lower the sun, the higher in the sky the rainbow will be.

From the Editor:
Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day (February 14) is a holiday that is often ignored in the workplace, but it could be  celebrated very simply and without any implication of "romance".
Consider allowing Valentine's Day to become an opportunity to remind each co-worker that you are appreciative of their efforts and talents. Rather than focusing on the love aspect of the day, it can become a day to compliment one another and to help others feel valued and recognized.

The excellence revolution was around for more than decade before companies began to realize that the same principles and practices that made the shop floor faster, better, and more profitable applied to non-production/office functions-everywhere: hospitals, banks, retail stores, airports, at-home services, schools and colleges, and government agencies. The knowledge content of workplace visuality is so universally relevant, it relates to all work venues. If work is done there, implementing visual principles and practices will make as dramatic ...

Visual Poem/Puzzle
Thought for the Week
In a world without visual devices and visual mini-systems, operators and maintainers alike are forced to rely on memory or costly trial-and-error to fill in for information deficits. Visual solutions put an end to all of that and refocus us on more advanced questions, such as: What is the highest level of equipment effectiveness and availability we can achieve?
